ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Grannie Turkheim's RECIPE BOX TOASTER SNOW SQUARES (Mrs. G. K. Crocker) 1 envelope gelatine 4 tablespoons cold water 1 cup boiling water 3 egg whites, beaten 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla 2/3 cup white sugar Sprinkle gelatine over the cold water and let soak for 5 minutes, add boiling water and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool; but be- fore completely set add the stiffly beaten egg whites, salt and vanilla. Turn into slightly greased 8" x 8" pan and chill until set. Then cut in 2" squares and roll ingraham wafer crumbs. To serve cover the squares with the following: ANGEL SAUCE FOR SNOW SQUARES 3 egg yolks 1/2 cup white sugar 2 cup melted butter pinch of salt 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 cup whipped cream Beat egg yolks until they are lemon colored, gradually add the sugar, beating constantly, all but- ter gradually, then lemon rind and juice. Blend thoroughly. Whip the cream, add salt and fold into egg mixture. Chill well. (This makes a nice light dessert and can be prepared a day or so in ad- vance-. Mr. W. Bake cake for 5 hours in 200 degree oven. 0 BANANA MUFFINS 1/2 cup melted shortening or margarine 3/4 cup white sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon baking soda dissol- ved in 1/4 cup hot water 11/ cups all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg L teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup mashed ripe bananas Mix and bake in muffin pans at 375 degrees until toothpick comes out dry. McQueen Hensall Mr. and Mrs. Stewart 141eQeen, life long residents of Hensall dis- trict, held "Open House" at their home last Wednesday afternoon and evening, December 28, for relatives friends and neighbours, on the oc- casion of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Over 100 guests were received by Mrs. Hilton Laing, of Exeter, and Danny Laing, Mervyn Bell and Colleen Baynham were in charge of the guest book The tea table was centred with a wedding cake, flanked by floral arrangements in white and gold, with gold tapers. Pouring tea were Mrs. J. D. Reid, London; Mrs. Jean Manson, Exe- ter; Mrs. Roy Lamont, Zurich, and Mrs. Glenn Bell, Hensall; tea room attendants were: Miss Donna Rig- by, Toronto; Miss Ruth Anne Tra- quair, St. Thomas; Mrs. Melvin Elliott and Miss Joan Elliott, Zur- rich. Their marriage of 50 years ago was solemnized at the Presbyter- ian Manse, Hensall, by the late Rev. E. F. Smith, and the at- tendants were Mrs. Margaret Hem- ery, of Carleton Place, sister of Mr. McQueen, and John M. Glenn, of Hensall. Mrs. McQueen is the for- mer Grace McArthur, of Hay Town- ship, and following their marriage they farmed in Usborne Township until retiring to Hensall. Their children include t w c daughters, Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Rigby, of Blenheim; Mrs. Harry (Jean) Snell, Hensall. A daughter, Mrs. Jack (Helen) Traquair, passed away in 1959. There are also two granddaughters, Miss Donna Rig- by, Toronto, and Miss Ruth Anne Traquair, St. Thomas. Out of town guests attended from Toronto, London, Ingersoll, St. Thomas, Blenheim, Exeter and Zurich. Marion Joyce Witmer, of Zurich, became the bride of Ross Montague Dobson, of Exeter, at double ring candlelight ceremony in Evangel- ical United Brethren Church, Zur- ich, on Friday, December 30, with Rev. A. Amacher officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Witmer, Zurich, and the groom is the son of Mrs. Alma Dobson, Exeter, and the late Mr. Montague Dobson. The bride was gowned in a cock- tail length wedding gown of silver white French boucle brocade. The bodice featured a jewel neckline, a basque waist, and three quarter length sleeves.. The skirt cascaded softly in bouffant folds. To com- plete her outfit she wore a should- er length French pure silk illusion fingertip veil, caught up by a Queen's coronet etched with Au- rora borealis sequins and tiny seed pearls. She carried her nur- ses testament, crested with red gardinias. mar - Miss Elizabeth Doyle gowned in a blue crystal chain dress was the sole attendant and Mr. Bill Belling, Exeter, was best man. The ushers were Bob Dobson, Exeter, and Cameron Witmer, Zurich. For .travelling the bride wore a gold knitted dress with brown ac- cessories. They will reside in Ex- eter.
