One of the most successful
ever held --Better Exhibits .1
and Increased Receipts
•
The fifty-third annual exbibition
of the Zurien AgriculturaV.Society,
held on Weenesday and Thursday
of last week, was ,favored with
Weal weather and a large crowd
of. people attended. The 'rgate
receipts were in excess of ', the,
high mark in 1015 and the - ,show,
was one of the,most successfulheld
by the Society.
The exhibits in all classea,were
well up to former years, the in-
side department beiing so much,
crowded that an addition to the
hall may have to he built ,to ac-
comodate them all in another year
The receipts of the day amounted
to nearly $500, without counting in
the membership tickets sold dur-
ing the year.
HORSES, CATTI,E, HOGS • AIS'D
The exhibits in tresEeEP
classeS'W'ere
well up to former years.; " The
horse show attracted hiaiir and
they were well repaid by,
sone of the finest horseflesh, Alas.
section. The cattle classes 'Are
also well filled and the ,exhibits
showed that farmers are going
more and more into the product-
ion of high class stock. The
sheep - and hog exhibits were a-
bout 'the same as in other years.
P OUL TR Y
The poultry exhibits were larger
than last year, aind the need for
more room for this class was clear-
ly shown. The fancy types . of
id WI are slowly dying out and
people are going more into .the
utility strain such as Leghonns,
Rocks, Wyandottes, Rhode Island
Reds and Orphingtons. ,Someline
birds in these classes were shown.
GARDEN VEGETABLES AND
HORTICULTURAL
It has been many years since.at
finer display of garden vegetables
and field roots has been in the
show house. Potatoes, especially
were there in ab-andance and all
of a wonderful size. Beets, man -
golds, cabbage, e tc., were also
there in endless variety and all
were of exceptionall size and
quality. The apple exhibit was
not so large as in some forme
years but what were shown. were(
good ants. Other fruits show
were mope plentiful.
GRAIN AND DAIRY PRODUCTS
The exhibits in thee classes were
.,about the same as in other, years
LADIES' WORK, FINE ARTS
'AND FLOWERS,
The department of ladies Work
was well filled and the competition
keeninnearly all classes.
tFine Arts atnd Flowers the ' dis-
play was better than usual.
CHILDREN'S WORK '
This department was newly add
ed this yt;ar and created much at-
tention, The exhibits in art and
writing were many and some
fine specimens were shown.:
BABY SHOW
This was another new feature of
the fair, the prizes being awarded
by the Women's Institute. A
large number of babies were:ent-
ered and the interest takenin the,
contest should encourage the dir-
ectors to make this an annual ev-
ent.
THE RACES
The horse races are always an,
interesting feature of our fair and
this year was no exception,' Pred-
die Grafton, for green horae,
allowed considerable speed; and
capture both events.
