A HARROWING TALE
. The following o'er -,true tale com-
es to us from the columns of an ex
change, and we print itas anaw
Ail warning! We know that it is
true, because it is ,printedin •a news
paper, and, besides ,we ourselves
know people who would rather
borrow a paper than subscribe for
one, and eh' these two facts are
not a guarantee sof veracity, we'd
like ,to know what would be! The
story is as follows: "Once upon
a. time, amain who was too econ-
onnical^•to take a'paper stmt his lit -
;tic boy 'to borrow the copy taken
by his neighbors. Inhis haste,
°e boy ran over a four -dollar
stand of bees,',and in ten minutes
:poked like a itvatery summer
-squash.- His cries,' reached phis
bather, Who ran to his assistance,
and, tailing to see a barb= irefence
ran'itntto it, breaking it dawn, cutt-
ing alianat;ui of flesh from his an-
atomy and ruining a five -dollar
pair of pants. The old cow took
advantage of the gap in the fence,
got into the cornfield and killed
herself eating green corn. Rearing
the racket, his wife ran, upsetting
a. four -gallon churn felt of rich
cream into a basket of kittens,
drowning the whole `flock'. In
her ,hurry she dropped a seven -
dollar set. of Meath. The baby, left
alone, crawled through the spilled
milk into the parlor and ruined a
twenty -dollar carpet. During the
excitement the oldest daughter ran
away w,th !the hired man, the calv-
es got out and the dog broke up
eleven ,setting ,hens. Moral—Sub-
