Mr Henry Heideman, of Detroit,
Mich., visited at his home here this
week.

ness visitor here during the week.
Dr Wesley Schoellig, of Detroit,
was renewing old friendships in town
for a few days this week.
Arrangements are under way to
have a fine new organ installed in the
Evangelical church of this village.
Mrs. D. Moltke and son, Gordon, of
Rosthern, Sask., is visiting at the home
of Rev. and Mrs. Brown for a few days
Da E S Hardie, dentist, will be at
the Dominion House, Zurich, on Wed-
nesday, and Wednesday of the follow -
ng week.
John England has sold his 50 acre
grass farm on the Babylon Line, Hay,
to Albert Brown, of Stephen, for
$1,500.00.
Mr E D Wurm and sister, Miss
Annie Warm, attended the faneral of
the late John Foster, held at Pigeon,
Mich., last week.

The Gore Fire Insurance 0o, Galt,
has donated $60,000 to the Patriotic
Fund. The donation represents the
profits of the company during 1915.

It is expected the members of the
161st Batt., recruited at Hensall, will
mareh to Zurich some day in the
near !dare. They will receive a
hearty welcome from our citizens,
Mr Ferdinand Ileas, and daughter,
Margaret, left on Wednesday for S aith
Bend, Ind., to attend the funeral of
the former's aunt, Mrs 13 H Neitzel,
which is being held on Thoraclay
afternoon of this week.
An appeal is being made through
the Serbia Legation at London, Eng-
land, for funds for the starving and
homeless sufferers in Serbia. Oontri.

The present session of Parliament
will likely be over within six weeks or
two months, The original sessional
program will be followed, but the fire
seems to have taken the fighting spirit
out of the members and smooth sailing
is expected.
Word was received here on Tuesday
of the death of Mrs B a Neitzel, of
South Bend, Ina.' which sad event
took place in thatcity on Monday.
Deceased at one time was a resident
of Zurich and will be remembered by
some of the older inhabitants. Air
Fred Hess, 5r, of this village, is a
brother of the deceased.

HAY COUNCIL
Hay council met for its regular
session on Saturday last, All the
members were present, The minutes
of the last meeting were read and ad-
opted.
Five applications for the position of
manager of the Dashwood central
were considered. The application of
Peter McIsaac, the present manager,
was °Eteeepted, and an agreement
ordered to be drawn up embodying
the conditions and rules governing the
system.e'
'Iluditor's report and the Fin
ancial Statement for 1915 was laid
before the council and adopted.
The Clerk. was instructed to sign
the Detition to the Legislature of Ont
atio regarding the operation of a gov-
ernment Department of Labor.
A.motion was passed instructing
the clerk to notify the Bell Telephone
Co that the'council of Hay would not
be responsible for more long distance

DEATH OF ,TON FOSTER
Mr John Foster, who was born on
the Bayfield Road, Stanley township,
on the farm which is still in posses-
sion of the family, sixty-eighl years
ago, died at Pigeon, Mieh, on Monday
his passing being the first break in a
family of eight,
At fifteen years of age he went to
Clinton to begin his apprenticeship at
the woolen mill tarde. He afterwards
worked at the Zurich mill and sobse-
(ineptly conducted a business of his
own at Baylield. Thirty years ago
he moved to Michigan and after farm-
ing for some time took up his abode
at Pigeon. Five years ago his wife,
who was a Miss Zeller of Zurich died.
He is survived by three children,
Mrs Ernest Paul, Mrs E J Heaton
and Oliver D, •all of Pigeon; four
sisters, Mrs John Potts, Grand Rapids;
Miss A.nna.Foster, Mrs W Ford, Mrs
Henry Diehl, of Onbaxio, and three
brothers, William and Charles, of
tario and Robert of Manitoba,
Tbe funeral was held from thEs Pres-
byterian church on Wednesday of
