We have much pleasure in. extending to our

give to the worthy cause of the Red
Cross, The Council of Hay has start-
ed the list, with a grant from, the town-
shipAnels of $500. and a number of
othetsubseriptions have already been

are completed from all parts oi the

ingfer the Empire.. With the increase
of the British and overseas forces at
the, front there is a correspondingly
increase in numbers wounded and
consequently in expenditures and
large,sums are still required. It is
not too late to help this worthy and
necessary work and by giving what-
ever.yoe can you help to ease the
sufferings of those who defend you,
of those who are fighting your battle
and of those who are helping to defend
our grand Empire. Subscriptions
should besent or paid. to Mr Johnson
as soon as possible.

Line, left on Wednesday, in company
with Mr George Brock, of Hansell
for Muskoka, where they will hunt
deer as soon as the season opens,
The suit for damages of Mrs Davis
of Seaforth against the townships of
Hay and. Usborne for injuries to her
person and damages to bee rig some
months ago when returning to Seaforth
from Exeter, came up for trial at God -

A pretty wedding was solemnize d

Alousseau on Wednesday afternoon,
by Rev G F Brown, when their
daughter, Amanda, was united in
marriage to Mr Melvin Smith, son of
Mr and Mrs J 3 Smith. A large
number of guests were in attendance.

numerous and costly. The Herald
joins with their many friends in wish-
ing the young couple a happy and
prosperions journey through life.
Society help the sick and wounded
men?
Answer: By providing the Army
Medicel Department with additional
hospital stores of all kinds, from am-
bulaeces to drugs and bandages; by
sending out extra nurses, orderlies
and volunteer assistants by equip-
ping, wholly or in part, hospitals,
hospital ships and trains.
Question III, le Why- does not the
Government do all this work.
Answer: Becanse, in common with.
all other civilized nations, the Em-
pire recognizes the valise of voltui-
tale/ effort for the care of the
wounded as permitte-3 by the Inter-
national Convention of Geneva,1864
Red Cross work thns relieves in-

a properly organized channel for
personal service to the suffering

Answer: Because, if I stay at home,
I can help the men who fight,
through this Society, when they
need help most,

everybody in Canada subscribes
generously to the Red Cross?
Answer: Unnecessaay suffering will
be saved by asufficent supply of all
hospital stores and drugs; men will
be returned to the ranks instead of
bei ng invalided and others who
might never have seen home again
will be returned to the arms of their
ADDRESSING OF MAIL.
In order to facilitate the handling
of mail at the front and to insure
prompt delivery it is requested that
all mail be addressed as follows:—
