Last week was the last public-
ation of the Thedford Tribune, af-
ter issuing a weekly for twenty-
one years.
A very sociable time was spent
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. IIy.
Lipphardt on May 24th when they
celebrated their fiftyth anniversary
with a number of friends.
We have just received a car-
load of woven wire fencing- and
gates, etc., Wire is very scarce
'any one in need of fencing will
do .well to act at once while it lasts.

THE MONTH OF JUNE
"What is so rare as a day ,in
3une2 Then, if ever, come per-
fect days." "We may shut our
.eyes but we cannot help knowing.
That skies are clear and grass
is growing."
"Now is the high -tide of ' tkl•
year,." -So the poet says and one
need sarcely be dreaming to see
what he describes in his own way,
It is during this month tehta the
sun reaches a point nearest the
'Zenith. Not only are animal and
rZplant life putting forth their
Zbest efforts, but e'en we, hum-
an mortals, are most ambitious and.
active at this period of the year.
Sports, such as baseball, foot-
ball, lacrosse and horse -racing are;
'now most popular.
June is also a busy month, a
fact which usually becomes clear.
to every school boy and girl. {
Many that have been sluggish and
behind in their work during the
year are to .forego pleasant out-
ings and interesting games in the
long evenings before sundown if
they do not wish to,spend another
year in the, same work with some
of the little tots from the room
below. They await the approach
of the June examinations with
dread and, too often, fond parents
out of sympathy, consider the
examinations unjust or as some-
thing to spoil the pleasures of a
child during the finest time of
the year.
This is the age when the par-
ents' attitude toward children is
one of indulgence, but the fact
will always remain, "There's no
royal road to knowledge."
Pupils are busy reviewing his-
tory, geography, grammar, bot-
any, Zoology, selections for mem-
orizing nad other subjects( ,
Increased telegraph rates will
come into effect shortly, It is
expested the raise will be 32 per
cent. The minimum flat rate in
the east will probably be 30 cents
instead of 25, ancl extra words will
cost two cents each instead of
'one emit, as at present.
