board recently a communication was
received from the Ontario Hydro
Commission reducing the cost of po-
wer from $2 to $1 per h.p. per
moonth.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Drummond anno-
unce the -engagement of their eldest
daughter, Margaret Netterfield, to
Mr. Orme McKenzie, youngest son of
Mr. and Mrs. R. McKenzie of Kincar-
dine. The wedding will take place
some time this month.
Tont. Routledge, Clair Zuefle and
Roy Welsh were successful in passing
their examinations for sergeants in
the Huron Regiment, Lieut gam Ren-
nie also qualified for the rank of Cap
tain in the same regibent.
County Warden Rader of Dash-
wood was a recent visitor with fri-

officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Heximeyer
visited for a few days with Rev. and

on Dec. 2nd, took the' form of a
social held at Mr. Jas. McBride's.
About 50 young people 'gathered and
spent the evening in games and con-
tests. We also enjoyed. community
singing led by George Poulter. The
election of officers for 1933 was al-
so held, Lunch was served' ofter wh-
ich a party vote of thanks, moved by
George Poulter and seconded by Wal-
ter Mcl3rdde was presented to Mr. and
Mrs. McBride, Bert and " Clare for
their kind and generous hospitality.
The Benediction was pronounced by
Mr. Poulter. The officers for 1933

adding to their store in the penny
bank, the total at the end of Octob-

fortune to fall down from the mow
in the barn one day recently and fra-
ctured his arm. Dr. Taylor was called.

Leonard Merner of Zurich, was a
recent visitor with Mr. and Mrs. S.

At a meeting of the library board
last Friday evening it was decided to
ask for applications for the position
of librarian which owing to the death
of Greta McNaughton, is now open.
Man. R. Cameron, who was assistant
librarian during Miss 11'Lcivaughton's
illness, will continue on until a new
one is appointed. At the same meet-
ing James A. Paterson was appointed
secretary treasurer.
The municipal pot is beginning to
boil .in Hensall. Nomination meeting
is but .two weeks away. Reeve Geiger
will probably be in the field again
for the .reeveship, and also Robt. Cam
ieron, ':who received an equal number
of v.dtes .as. Mr. Geiger last year will
probably be in the contest. Other

Mrs. A. D. Harpole and daughter
who have been spending the summer
months with relatives in Mears, Alta,

Mrs. Wm. Buchanan of town, was
visited by her brother H. F. McAllis-
ter and wife of Westininister B.C.
it is some 30 years since Mrs. Bu-
chanan has seen her brother and he
is the -only living brother that she has
out .of seven brothers. Mr. and Mrs.

they celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary at.the home of their
daughter Mrs. C. Ellis, who resides
in Toronto.
The death occirred at his residence
289 Picaddi,lly St., London, on Dec.
3rd of the late John E. McDonnell,
former well known resident and bee
iness man of Hensall. He was a me-
mber of the firm of J. E. and C. A.
McDonnell, conducting a hardware
furniture and undertaking, also fuel
business in Hensall for a good many
years and the McDonnell Bros. were
one of°the best known firms in West-
ern Ontario. After the big fire in
Hensall 20 years ago they retired
from the hardware and furniture bus
iness, later conducting a garage and
selling new autos. owing to poor he-
alth Mr. McDonnell sold out to Vic-
tor Boa and was married three years
ago making his home in Lonclon,but
coming to Hensel] frequently, was a
staunch Cgnservati.ve for many years
a prominent member of the S. Huron
Conservative Association. Besides
his bereaved widow he leaves one
brother, Charles of Hensall; and two
sisters, Mrs. E. A. Bennett, of Sask-
atoon and Miss Susan McDonnell of
Exeter. The funeral was held to the
Exeret Union Cemetery.

The report of the penny .bank for
Sept. and Oct., show that the average
percentage of the pupils from the
Exetear Public School deposited dur-
ing those months as 37. The total a-
mount deposited at the end of Octob-
er by the Exeter pupils is $901.82,
as compared with $815.19 a year
ago.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McCaughey of
Clinton, celebrated their golden wed-
ding anniversary on Nov 27th, when
the event was fitingly marked by a
fancily reunion at the home of ther
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. Shanan.
Margaret Fraser, an old and much
esteemed resident of Goderich pas-
sed away at her home in her 82nd
year. She was born in Goderich Tp.
a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Fraser, but lived' for the greater part
of her life in the residence in which
she died. A brother, James, and a
sister, Caroline predeceased.
The folw supper in Cavell Presby-
terian church, Exeter, Wed. last was
a splendid success. The weather was
fine and a large crowd present. The
ladies provided a sumptuous repast
of hot goose and chicken with all the
delicacies that go to make a very
tempting meal. Following the supper
a splendid St: Andrew's Day program
was given in the church.

Cheer fund is beginning to mount up

A quiet but pretty wedding took
place at Hensall United church par-
sonage on December 7th, at 10.30
a.m., when Ivadell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John A. Cox, of Goderich
Tp., was united in marriage to Mr.
William E. Jervis, son of Mr. A.
Jervis, and the late Mrs. Jervis, of
Holmesville. Rev. A. E. Sinclair, a
former pastor" of Holmesville church,
performed the ceremony.
Mrs. Edith Ball, who resigned her
position as housekeeper at the Clin-
ton Public Hospital some time ago,
going up ` to 'Palmerston to .visit her
sister-in-law, was quietly married at
Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 1, to Wm.
Cottle of Rudyard, Mich., where they
will reside.
In Magistrate's court last Saturday
morning F. W. Leisemer, who recent-
ly opened a butcher shop in Egntond-
ville, pleaded not guilty to a charge
of peddling in Seaforth. The charge
is the first laid since the new by-law
relating to hawkers and pedlers came
into force. Magistrate Greig adjour-
ned the case until a week. H. G. Meir'
is acting for the town, while J. H.
Best is counsel for the defendant.
District Telephone Company offi-
cers were hi Clinton recently in com-
pliance with the resignation of Mrs.
C. Rumball, transferred the care of
the local office from her to_ Miss Lily
Kennedy, who has been connected
with the office for nearly 20 years
and has been in charge of the traffic
department for some years. Miss Ken
nedy is now local representative. In
the evening the district staff joined
with the local staff in a little fare-
well to Mrs. Rumball.
One of Seaforth's oldest residents
and one of its most deservedly este-
emed citizens passed to the great be-
yond en Dec. 5th in the person of
Mrs. Angus McPhee, after an illness
extending , over some months. Her
maiden name., was Leonora Williams,
was' born in Brockville 84 years ago
and at the age of nine came to. Can-
ada with her parents. In 1871 she
was united in marriage at the Egnt-
ondville Manse to Angus. McPhee of
Seaforth. They lived a short time at
Lucan before going to Seaforth.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bissett of the
2nd, con., Usborne have the sympathy
of many friends in the loss of their
only child, Beverley Ross, aged 3
years, 4 months, and 3 days. The Tit-
tle lad passed away in the War' Me-
morial Children's Hospital, London,
on December lst. The day previous
he had undergone an operation whi-
"ci,. he' had• come through. fine; the
operation : having proved successful
but the shock 'to his system was too.
