Back to the Horse
The more general use of horses, in
place of machinery, on prairie farms
is said to be one of the results of the
repeated crop failures. The hard -up
farmer has no money to buy gasoline
and this year old Dobbiin will help
him in his operations to a greater ex-
tent than far several years. And at
that it is expected that a larger acre-
age than ever will be seeded. A
greater proportion will be put in
oats, to provide rations for the hard-
working horses.

HESS, the Repair Man
considerably on soils in numerous
districts. Perth county reports a
number of farmers busy cleaning
seed grain and predicts a good de-
mand for seed of the 1930 crop which
was of very good quality.
Better Seed
Better seed pays big dividends in
crop improvement. Production may
be increased from 10 to 14 pounds
per bushel and. from 10 to 14 bush-
els per acre by sowing only large,
plump seed. The farmer will find it a
paying proposition to get the old fan-
ning mill out of the store -Louse, fit',
it up properly with screens and make
a genuine cleanup of seed this spring
How To Keep Milk
Four little words tell the whole
story about how to keep milk in
proper shape for use in the home..
These are "Clean, Cool and Covered'
This is one of the fundamental rules
of home econo'mics. For best results
milk should be served at the end of,
the meal, and it should always be sip-
ped slowly. Milk is the ideal food for
children of allages because of itis
quality and quantity of prootein, its
abundance of calcium; its readily as-
similable phosphorus content, its iron
and its easily. digested fat and sugar.
. Big Loss
Ontario 'fait" annually logy
hundreds of dollars from pa;rasitee
in sheep and hogs. Dr. L. S. Steven-
son has made a special study of this
problem and has written several bul-
letins, copies of which can be obtain-
ed front your local. Department of
Agriculture.
About Fertilizers
Commercial fertilizers when appli-
ed to various crops in conjunction
with good fanning methods give big
returns. Phosphates increase yields of
almost all crops, on almost all types
of soil. Potash pays especially on thr
sandy soils. Nitrogen for most farm
crops should, as tar as possible, bn
obtained from growing legntdes.
