Artifical Ice in Goderich
At the recent meeting of the Board
of Health, Goderich, an application
was received from Geo. Johnston 4.
Sons for permission to operate an
artifical ice plant and to sell ice in
that town. The applicants purpose to
use their cement blocks building. on
Kingston st., for the purpose and to
install the latest ice -making machin-
ery.
OFFICIALS RECEIVE DRASTIC
CUTS
Drastic reductions were made in
the salaries of the County Officials
at the Friday morning session when
salaries were reduced all the wavy
from five to thirty-three per cent.
The following figures show the
comparison in the salaries of 1931
and those adopted in Council for
1932, the 1931 figures appearing first
in each instance:
Clerk, $1,800, $1,200; Treasurer,'
$1,800, $1,300; County Crown At-
torney, $1100, $1,000; County Eng-
ineer, with car and upkeep, for Good
Roe ds, $3400, 2,900;$For County
Roads, $200, $200; Goaler with fuel
and lights, $1,000, $950; Matron of
Goau, $225, $225; Turnkey of Goal,

the family as she was a very bright

One by one the older generation
who have seen the development of
Zurich as years passed along, are be-
ing called to their eternal reward.
This week dre cronicle the departure
of a well known figure of the village
in the person of Mr. Wiliam H.
Uttley, who died in Victoria Hospital,
London, early Saturday morning',
February 6th, aged 78 years, .4 mon-
ths and 23 days, On the previous
Sunday he was rushed to the Hospital
to be. operated on for cancer of the
bowels, and after the operation he
gradually grew weaker till Saturday
morning life ebbed away. He was
born in Waterloo, and came to this
district about 60 years ago, and was
an employee of the Zurich Mill for
over fifty years, during which time
he was the fireman for the mill and
electric plant till Hydro came m 0 1 13
Mr. Uttley's health began to fail him
about eight months ago and although
n!ways 'able to be around, he suffered
considerable pain,. Surviving him
re, his widow, Mrs, Uttley, one bro-
ther, John of Waterloo, ant: its chil-
iron as follows: .Joseph Utley of
Ansa Craig, Frank,' Herbert, Milford
