Mr. and Mrs. Miller of Kitchener, were visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Con- rad T.iemnan, Relatives in the village received word on Tuesday last of the death of John Hicks which occurred sud- denly at his home in Beamnsville. on Monday afternoon: He was a son of the late Thomas and Mrs. Hicks of Chiselhurst and spent his early life there. He was a school teacher and taught at Wyoming, Stony Creek and for the last 20 years has been principal of the Beamsville' public school. He also owned. and managed a large fruit farm at Beamsville and also a poultry farm, exhibiting his prize stock at the big exhibitions in COUNTY NEWS sidents, celebrated the 59th anniver- sary of their wedding. An attempt was made early one day recently to enter two Seaforth stores, but in both cases the would-be thieves were unable to gain entrance The Wingham Horticultural Soc- iety has purchased the lot ini that town on which the Bell factory for- merly stood and will convert it into e beauty spot. While on duty the other even- ing, Chief of Police W. G. Fee, of Seaforth was suddenly stricken with a fainting spel. He was removed to his home where his condition is re- garded as serious. Jos. During services in the Kincarclinie United church last ' Sunday evening some one entered the basement of the church and stole two ladies' fur coats, a man's overcoat, and several scarfs and gloves. The owners were in the choir at the time. Clinton's first community Christmas tree, sponsored by Mayor Cooper, who subscribed $100 towards the ex- penses and gave much time to the preparations, was set up this fear aand on Dec. 18th, it proved to be a very successful affair.
