Thanksgiving Day passed off very
quietly in the village, as a goodly
number were away visiting friends,
while others were'entertaing friends
and then a goodly number of the men
folk were out .with guns trying to
get, a shor at something, while some
report having got some nice ducks
and rabbits.
People who drive horse-drawn ve-
hicles on the. roads after dark without
a light should realize that they are
risking their lives. It is very difficult
for automobile drivers to see a horse
or a wagon at any distance on a dark
road, while a light if properly. dis-,
played is readily seen. Almost" ..any
driver of a car can tell of near acci-
dents from the absence. of lights on
vehicles.
The weatherman has during the
past week again mixed things up a-
gain, as on Thursday morning a
blanket of about six inches of snow
covered the ground, and we noticed
the first horse drawn sleighs in the
morning for this year, but nature
thought it too early to remain thus,
so it gradually warmed up and we
have since had some wonderful nice
and warm weather, which soon van-
guished the snow.
"Stunting", whether in motor cars
or aeroplanes is rather risky business

Drought Hits Corn -Borer
The prolonged dry spell during the
past summer came to the aid of sci-
ence in the battle against the Euro-
pean corn -borer, with a resultant 25
per cent, decrease in stock infestat--,1
ion in Ontario as a whole. This in -1
formation is contained in the report
of G. N. Stirrctt, Dominion Entorn-1
ologist, which will be presented at the
annual convention of this Society of
Ontario at Ottawa on Nov. 6, 7, and
8th. Essex and Kent Counties show
30 per cent reduction. On the other
hand some counties in Eastern Ont-
ario, particularly Prince Edward Co-
unty, show an increase in infestation.
New Canadian Post Stamps
Fall styles in postage stamps will
show a radical change in color scheme
Within a month or so if present sup-
plies are exhausted, a new issue of
stamps up to the eight -cent denom-
ination will be released by Canada's
Postoflice Dept. Basic colors will be
changed in conformity with regulat-
ions of the Universal Postal Union, of
which Canada is a member. The one
cent stamp will change its "dress"
from orange to green; the two -cent
stamp will be red, in place of green
as at present; the mauve five -cent
stamp will make way for one of blue
and the eight -cent postal carrier will,
give up its blue color for a modish
orange.
