Planing Mill Sold The Goderich Planing Mills prop- erty, comprising the land and build- ings at the corner of Cambria Road and Nelson street, with machinery tools, office furniture and trucks, was sold at auction to J. E. Baechler of the Goderich Manufacturing Co., being the purchaser at a price of $4,500. The stock of lumber and hardware had previously been sold to F. C. Kalbfleisch. of Zurich, who un- til September 15th will offer the same for sale at the mill in quantit- ies to suit purchasesr.—Goderich Sig- nal_ The other night one of the best working horses owned by C. O. Smith of the Blue Water Highway, in some unknown way gotout on the road 'and. towards midnight, a Michigan car cante along and run into the horse who was grazing along the roadside, with the result that the animal had its hing leg fractured. Some neigh - gore heard the crash, but by the time they arrived :an the scene, the driver of the car, pulled away without any identification, and left the poor an- imal in this suffering condition. How- ever, Mr. Smith was at once notified and to relieve the critter's sufferings it was shot at once. People should bear in mind the traffic rules and not. leave the scene of accident before re- porting to the right authorities. At the recent meeting of the Zur- ich Police Trustee Board on Tuesday evening last, a petition was received asking for the privilege of tapping the water supply at the fire hall to be used in the homes of the applicants. The privilege was granted and the plans are that the water will be stip- plied to eight of the residents living near the fire hall. The users agreed to supply all material and do all labor in making the installations, while the Trustees agreed to keep an adequate supply of water in the storage tank, The fates fixed are $10.00 for done- stic use and $12.00 :for commercial sr. This arrangement will also pro- ide better fire protection for the Plage- as it mean, that water will be Yet the winter time as well a)s ruling the arm weather. c u v Happy is he thatt condomni th v not himsadlt in that thing which he ,atvuilatnle Our local gasoline filling stations are demonstrating a little price com- petition this week, as we notice that gas can be purchased at 30c, 28c, 25c 24c, and one station sells at 23c. So if your tank is empty you can save a few cents by first going around and getting, the prices, and then act ac- cordingly. The ordinary gas has been sold all summer in town at 1).5e and 27c, with the higher tests at 80c. It is, we think, poor policy to cut down all commission just to beat the other fellow, and the public in general do absolutely not want any mercaant to do business without any margin of profit on the same. The price of gas in general throughout this part of Western Ontario has been all summer 27c, for ordinary and 30c for the high tests, and no one should kick on these prices, as it is practically the same, when size of gallons are con- sidered, as across the line, and we do not see vhy this price cutting ever took place in Zurich. The 17th Parliament of the Dom- inion of Canada opened on Monday noon of this week, with the now .Prem ier, Hon. R. B Bennet in the place where the leader of the opposition, Hon. W. L. MacKenzie King sat for the last term of sessions. The speak- er of the house is Capt. Black. There are in all 245 members, of which 85 are new members who have never sat in these responsible chairs, which go to rule the destiny of the country. There are always a goodly number of people who are very narrow in their views and thing that if the opposite side of polities to what they believe gets into power, that the country will go to the dogs. But we cannot see things in such a way, as the country always elects the best men in the country as their representatives, and then at parliament there is always a strong opposition to oppose any un- reasonable measure, and of course the' Senate also has power to throw out any measure that books unreason- able. So there is nothing at present to be particularly alarmed about, If only the unemployment conditions throughout the worly would improve the .country would soon be swinging along nicely. if we talk to our cous- ns to the south of us we find that he unemployment is in a much worse condition there, and truly we cannot, help but think that our country all through measures up with. any that t we brew of.
