formerly of 'the Babylon Line, Stan-
ley. The beide entered the drawing -
room to the strains of the bridal
chorea from "Lohengrin" • ;played by
Miss Vera Schweitzer of Waterloo,
cousin of the bride. Miss Alma, Thur
sang "Because," in a charas:ing voice.
The ceremony was performed amid a
profusion of palms, fern's and sum-
mer flowers by Rev. E. D. Becker,
The bride who was given in marriage
by her father, WAS becomingly gown=
ed inivory crepe with lace trimmings,,
With this she wore a bridal veil of
tulle caught with orange blossoms
and seen pearls and carried a shower
bouquet of .Sunburst roses. She was
attended by her .sister, Miss Eileen,
who wore a frock of pale Maize and
carried. a bouquet of talisman roses.
The groom was assisted by his broth-
er, Elmore Key, Seafhro.t. The
;groom's gift to bridesmaid was a
pendant; to best -man a set of cuff
links; to the eolei t. a silver bud vase
and to the 1laei•t a silver bonbon
dish. Following the eeronony a din-
ner was served to some 50 guests,
after which -Mr. and Mrs. Keys left
by motor for Buffalo, Rochester' and
the Eastern States, bride travelling
in a blue rind sand ensamble with hat
Shoes and LjC.'t'.sso ries to match, and
the bridegroom's gift: a brown fox
fur, On their return they will reside
in East Windsor, where 2.Ir. Keys is
principal of the David 11'Iaxwell
school.

day last holding court for speeding
on the highway. The case was dis-
missed.
Reeve Higgins was in Goderich on
Tuesday last attending a meeting of
the old age pension board.

pleasant visit with their daughter in

and Nellie Carmichael spent a week
at Grand Bend
The death occurred in Hensall on
Monday last of Fred Simmons, a well
known resident and war vetern. }Ie
was wounded hi the war' and has been
in poor health since, and about ayear
ago more serious complications ;set- in
and despite several operations, and
the best nursing, he failed to rally
and passed away on Monday. He was
born in Hibbert- Township 46 Years
ago and lived out on the farm,_ until
the Huron J .attallion was organized
for the Great War. He joined up and
went overseas with the Battalion
and in one of the many engagements
he was severely wounded by shrap-
nel- After returning home he was
a:.le to get around, but never fully
recovered. He was a roan 'of a very
pleasant disposition, well liked by
every one, an.i was an enthusiastic
bowler and greatly enjoyed being on. -
the local green. For a number. of
years he has been a valued mennber
of the Hensall Library Doerd, and
was greatly interested in the welfare
of the Library. Besides his sorrow-
ing widow he leaves to mourn.his loss
one son, Jack, and several brothers
and sisters:

his parents also attending the con-
vention in Crediton last week.

led on friends in town on Friday.
Rev. and Mrs. Sauer and son Mil-
ton are attending a Sauer reunion
near Niagara Falls this week.
Miss Nelda Fassold of London,
spent the week -end with her parents.
Miss Hilda Snell returned to De-
troit on Monday after spending her
vacation with her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman and
Lily and Mr. and Mrs. R. Eckstein of
London visited in this vicinity on•Sun
day.
A large crowd gathered in town on
Sunday evening to listen to the spec -
al concert given by the Dashwood
Brass Band. Sonne excellent pieces
were played which was very much
enjoyed by all present. .

The will of the late Mary Maud
Ellerington, nurse, of Exeter, who
died on July 8th, has been ailed for
probation. .Disposal of an estate o>:
e15,873 is to be divided as follows:
Margaret Ellerington, niece, Norm-
andy Bulv., Toronto; Fred Eliering-
ton, brother, Exeter, and Thoe..ii.11er-
ington, Stettler, Alta., brother, each
receive a legacy of 5500. The resid-
ue is then to be shared equally by the
four' sisters of deceased, gate and
Anna, Toronto; Helen, Winnipeg and
Mrs. Margaret Michael, of Oshawa.
Owing to the prompt action of th
,tea,:tc•r firemen the other day, a lir
which had gained considerable head
way and which threatened to destroy
a born on the property of S. Johns,
was quickly brought under control.
When the firemen arrived the barn
was a mass of flames which threaten-
ed to set fire to the house as the
wind carried the flames in that direst
ion. With heroic effort the fiances
were soon subdued leaving the build-
ing badly charred.
• The Perth Regimental Band, of
Stratford, will give a concert. in
Library Park, Clinton, on Thursday,
vening, Sept. 4th, commencing at
eight o'clock.
Another of the pioneer residents of
Mitchell in the person of Jno. Tilley
passed away in his 79th year. He
was born in the townshif of Darling-
ton and carne to Mitchell with his pair
ents when an infant. For a number
of years he has been totally blind.
The other day the House, barn, im-
plement shed and garage, practically
everything belonging on the farm of
J. II. Patrich & Son on the llth con.
of London Tp., wes destroyed by fire
while threshing operations were pro-
ceeding. The damage was estimated
at $25,000. .The whole crop of the
season was in the barn, almost three-
quarters of it thrashed and every -
thin burned.
Bakers of Huron, Bruce and Perth
counties held a picnic at Harbor Park
Goderich, on Wednesday last. The ev-
ent was a success in every way, up-
wards of 150 being in attendance. It
was the first joint picnic the bakers
of these counties ever held and judg-
ing from its success it will likely be-
come an annual event. During the
afternoon a softball game and a pro-
gram of sports were held. H. E.
Trent, .Treas of the Bakers' Associ-
ation,. Toronto, was among the guest
of the afternoon..
Geo. Hepburn, of Stephen, on Sat-
urday last sold to Byron Hicks 15
fat cattle that have been in the stable
since November last. This is the first
time in Mr. Hick's business that he
has shipped stable fed cattle so late
in the season.
At a special meeting of the Col-
borne Tp. council, Herbert F. Morris,
was appointed township elerk. The
new clerk who is a well-known and a
highly esteemed resident of the town-
ship. succeeds Mrs Hetherington, whe
held the position for seven years, sin-
ce the death of her husband, the late
Major Isaac Hetherington, and disch
arged:her duties in every way in an
efficient. and satisfactory manner. She
is moving to Toronto.
The Cafe on Main St., Exeter, own
ed by Lee Lim and his father, Lee
Quin has been sold to Wong See ane
Wong Kee, of London, who have al-
ready taken possession. Lee Lim and
his father intend leaving in the near
future for their former home in
China. The former is very popular
among the young people of town. He
is a pupil of Exeter H: S. this year
writing his middle examinations, and
is also a member of the United
Jhurch, in Exeter.
