Mr. Hurley Weber, of Detroit,, and
a son of Mr. Harry Weber, Tate of
Zurich, was a visitor in town during
the past week. It is some twenty ye-
ars since he was a resident of Zurich
A car driven by a resident of Bay-
field, left the road a short distance
west of the village and landed in a
field after going through a rail fence.
No particular damage was done to the
car, but the fence was scattered con-
siderably.
The other day the team o:r Mr.
Harvey took fright at a passing auto
while being driven on the Zurich Rd.
near D. Dignan's farm. They took
to the ditch and hitting a telephone
pole left the wagon behind and ran
away. The pile was smashea •s,ut no
person was injured. In this age it
is very unusual to hear of horses do-
ing any damage to property while in
the act of running away, it is almose
exclusively automobiles.
Why Taxes Mount
Ratepayers of Goderich this year
will pay into the Provincial treasury
the sum of $946.12, as their share of
the twenty per cent. of the portion of
the municipalities by the Provincial
Government. This is equivalent to
about half a mill on the tax rate and
is one good reason why taxes are
mounting. The total county bill with
the town this year is $13,245.74, of
which $6,622.87 is for general coun-
ty purposes, $3784.50 for county
highways. The general rate is slight-
ly lower than last year.
Suspended •Sentence
Albert McEwen, 17 -year-old High-
land Park, Mich., youth, whose act of
falling• asleep at the wheel of an
automobile resulted in an accident in
which his mother received fatal in-
juries, was arraigned before Magis-
trate Reid, at Goderich last Saturday
morning on a criminal negligence
charge. He pleaded guilty and was
given two year's suspended sentence
by His Worship. Recommendation
has been made to the State a<<'Liiolit-
ies at Lansing, ,that the lad's driving
permit be cancelled for a period of
two years. boy was all brok64
up and he had resolved not to again
drive a car.
THE ELECTION
One of the most spectacular elect-
ion nights ever held in a town the
size of Zurich, was celebrated here in
Zurich on Monday evening, after a
great number of the reports of the
election results were in, and the pub-
lic found out who the winners of
the big contest were. Mr. T. Mc-
Millan, the elected Liberal candidate
arrived with part of the Clinton Kil-
tie Band, this was joined by the loc-
al members of the Zurich band, and
a most wonderfull procession took
place through town, with the famous
broom torches and what not, It sure
livened up things, and both parties of
politics were out on parade cheering
and expressing their happiness, the
Liberals that their candidate, Mr. T.
McMillan was again re-elected with
a majority of some 368, and then on
the other hand the Conservatives
were happy because the King Govern
meat was defeated, and Mr. R. B.
Bennett, the leader of the opposition
in the last house will be the premier
of Canada for the next five years,
and he has a good representation in
thy house with a majority of 291
,, nernbers over the Liberals, and

fight in South Huron was a real one
and will be remembered for some
time, as Mr. McMillan's majority
from the last election was reduced
about 800 votes,' which is a very
creditable showing for Mr. Trewartha
the defeated candidate. Az we go
