Splendid publicity has been given to the regulations of the Act by the public press. You, as Provin- cial Officers, are service men with a very important duty to perforin. Your work, if efficient, will be much appreciated in years to come. Per- anal Sow Thistle is the world's worst weed and, unfortunately, is increasing in area every year in this Province. The annual picnic of St. Peter's Lutheran Ladies' Aid will be held on the afternoon of August 6th, at the Grand Bend_ The ladies are reques- ted to bring along their husband: and friends and make this a big e . en; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Laquc and fam- ily of Detroit, are spending a few days this week at the home of Mrs. Laque's mother, Mrs. C. Ayotte. They are on their way to New Ontario on a two week's camping outing, and carry a full line of tent, and other equipment necessary. Monday next, August 4th, has be- en proclaimed 'as civic holiday thro- ught Ontario, and practically all the towns are observing it, and so we must draw our reader's attention to the fact, that on Monday next is a province wide holiday and all places of business will be closed on that day and people corning to town with in- tentions of doing shopping, will be greatly dissapointed. The town was rather deserted on Wednesday afternoon last, as the big attractions eisewhehe in Goder- ich, the big ball tournament in Hen - sail, and then the big Conservative rally at Exeter, at which the party leader, Hon. R. 13. Bennett addressed the large gathering, and since has be- come Premier of Canada. Little do we know before the election who is going to be the lucky one that can put his argument across strong en- ough to swing the majority of the independent voters. The harvest season is progressing along very rapidly. The fall wheat is being hauled in the barns, and the binders are kept busy cutting the oats and summer crops, in fact some oats were cut last week already. The extremely hot weather came to a sudden close on Monday about sup- per time, when a nice cool breeze made its appearance from the north. The mercury during Monday after- noon was driven up to 115 in the sun at a certain place in town, but in the shade it registered 97, phew, too hot for this part of Canada. A real good shower of .rain would in- deed be very welcomed. As we'are at present in the midst of the holiday season, and nearly ev- erybody is looking for a week or so to have vacations, and several have been. asking your publisher just when the Herald will observe its an- nual waak "off", so we have at pres- ent planned to have holidays during the week of August 14th, and as that is the publishing day, we ask our sub- scribers not to look for a paper on that date. After Thursday August 7th, the publisher and family purpose leaving for a ten days camping out - :ng in the Bruee Peninsular, and as an. outing of this kind the time al-' ,ways flies 'too rapidly, when we must return to steady going again for °a."year~ 1 lt• l ils taiiefee Mr. and Mrs. Gid. The great Stake Races to be held in Goderich, Civic Holiday, Aug. 4th will attract horsemen from all parts of Ontario, as the supremacy of Sil- ent Grattan and Remona Grattan, is left undecided, so enthused are the supporters of these two horses both owned in Goderich, that already a side wager of 4 500 has been made, and that dead heat between these two great pacers on July 12th Iast, .at Sarnia 2.103;1 is giving the boys Something to think about.
