Dr. and Mrs. A. J. MacKinnon and
two sons, Hugh and Archie, left on
Wednesday morning of this week for
a few day's holidays, at the Doctor's
former home, at Caladon East, north
of Toronto.
A very unique gathering took place
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John M.
Oesch, of the Goshen Line, north, on
Sunday, when a large Oesch Reunion
was celebrated at their home, with
approximately 230 relatives present.
In the afternoon a very appropriate
program was held, consisting of re-
ligious addresses, etc., as it was on
the Sabbath, no sport preliminaries
were held. After the afternoon pro-
gram was over, the party repaired to
the lakeside at Drysdale, where the
:vening lunch was partaken off, and
there in that beautiful spot of nature
many old reminances were excrianged
and a most lovely time spent. Friends
were present from Ontario, Michigan
and Saskatchewan.
Before we go to press next week,
the People of Canada will be called
upon on Monday, July 28th, to cast
their ballots for the Dominion wide
general- election. This usually is the
talking issue of the day for a period
of time previous and after the elec-
tion; and while the politicians are at
present make considerable noise, we
fail to see that the public in general
are very much stirred, especially the
younger generation. Probably most
of us thing that there is no much
good, and then a certain amount of
bad in each government, it is indeed
hard to. find a government that can
please all classes. of people. And us-
ually the most displeased class of peo-
ple are the ones who have by tradit-
ion received their side of politics.
Usually this class will sooner change
.heir relig:on, or change almost any -
ling in their social or economic rifn
gut the politics is the last thing that
they could see should be changed.
While a great many people have been
rather opposed to the third party in
politids, yet we must give this great
movement much.°credit in bringing a-
bout a fre minded and independent
class of voters who can size up con-
ditions and then go to the polls and
cast their ballots as they think best.
But whether yoiu are an indepentent
voter, of tied hand and foot to a
party, let every true Canadian go out
and honor your franchise by casting
your ballott for the candidate you
think most worthy of your support.
The wheat promises to be an except-
ionally good crop in these parts at
rano Stan 1.et2at pun =uoseas sag
that the prices of this important crop
are not better. However, this should
not prevent the farmers from sowing
wheat this fall as by another year,
it is quite possible that prices will a-
gain he to raise wheat at a profit. A
good shower of rain is badly needed
and would do a lot of good to the
later crops at present.
While in conversation with Huron
County's Official Traffic Officer on
the Blue Water Highway, he advised
us that he had just been rounding
up an American car going over 70
miles an hour. Mr. Norman Lever,
the officer has much reason to be
proud of the fine new motor cycle
that the Huron County Highways
Department has recently supplied
him with and which has a speed max-
imum of 90 miles per hous. So it is
little use for most of us in trying to
run away from him. Mr. Lever also
advises us thae he is very willing to
come out to any motor accident that
should occur at any time. As the
new laws require that all motor ac-
cidents must be reported to the right
authorities. if you know of, or are
in an accident be sure and call up
Mr. Norman Lever, Phone :.i, Clin-
ton, and he will attend to the same at
once.
That the wonderful growth of this
summer cannot be demonstrated any
better than a sample of goose wheat
brought to the Herald office by Mr.
Henry CIausius of the Blind Line,
hay, which measured 6 feet and four
inches, please bear in mind that this
is not a corn stalck, but ; /:;ual wheat
stalks. Mr. Clausius haci rt nicely
mounted on a thin piece of board and
it was put on exhibition in front of
the Herald Office, but on Tuesday
night some empty headed mauraders
who tried to be `smart" tore down
the stalks, and scattered them over
the sidewalks, and broke the board in
small pieces, and also scattered them
around town. Work of this kind is
very ungentlemanly, and no person
of dignity and self respect would do
it, and is liable to prosecution. We
often hear these days that the world
is getting better, but when we were
young people we cannot remember
of any one engaging in such brainlebs
uncultured and undignified pranks.
