BUSY FARMER NEWS
Good Advice
Speaking to a group of farmers at
Picton. recently, Dr. G. I. Christie,
President of theO.A.C., gave some
good advice which should be applic-
able to all of us: "That for 1930 I
am going to look after my own bus -
in ess first and make every acre of my
farm pay and forget about all the
gloomy things I have heard and read.
Beautifying School Grounds
A praiseworthy movement has Been
started in Lincoln County where a
large number of rural schools are
applying to the district agricultural
office for planting plans, whereby the
school grounds may be beautifullied.
Rough sketches are made by teachers
and these are forwarded to the Hort-
icultural Dept., at 0.A.C., where blu
prints will be prepared, giving the
exact planting arrangement for trees
windbreaks, shrubs and flowers. The
trees are ordered from the Forestry
Branch at Toronto and are supplied
free, the school sections paying only
the express from the Government St-
ation at SE Williams. This enterprise
should effect a treh.endous improve-
ment in school grounds and deserves
to be emulated in other counties.
Survey Of Fruit Industry
.A. general survey of the fruit Indus
try of Canada is to be commenced at

as comniissioner, and Joe Coke from
the economics dept., of O.A.C., as his
assistant. Dr. Booth is asking the
co-operation of all interested in find-
ing out the exact facts regarding the
fruit industry. Both the Canadian
Horticultural Council and the all -Can
ada. Agricultural Conference have
asked for such an investigation of
costs and methods.
