ITEMS OF LOCAL INTEREST
We have been advised that Mr. D.
Gascho, who has been the past year
working at New Hamburg, has re-
cently been engaged by Mr. Wm.
Reith, the new baker, to assist him
in his various liner of activity.
Mr. and Mrs. Len. F. Heist of De-
troit spent Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Klopp. Mrs.
Klopp and daughter Dolores who
have spent the past three weeks in
that city have returned with them.
Court This Week
Non -jury assizes will be held r/in
Goderich this week before Mr. Just-
ice Logie, the court opening on Tu-
esday. There are four cases on the
list: McCaa v. Shillinglaw; Armstr-
ong v. McKenzie, The King v. Ament
1 1 and Jeffrey v. Swallow.
Wm. Hartry, the well known hort-
iculturist, of Seaforth, ' has at his
1
Koine at present a beautiful Hybrid
Amyrillis. The plant stands about
two and a half feet high and has
four blooms at the top, each one hav
ing a petal spread of seven. inches.
The bottom petals are pure white and
the other three on each flower are
streaked with red. A grower is con-
sidered to be very fortunate to have
one of these lilies bloom in light col-
or, as they are usually darker red.

The Used Car Market
Public confidence in used motor
cars has been substantially inrrease.1
by the policy of reputable firms which
recondition and guarantee the used
vehicles which they sell. Buying a
used car is not today regarded as a
horse -trade used to be -a trade in
which each party to the deal attempt
ed to get the better of the other.
Deaerls nowadays, are making a
genuine effort to give satisfaction
and service.

A despatch from Walkerton states
that acquisition of the Foshay inter-
ests in. Bruce County by the Hydro -

ario was reported the other day. Af-
ter many months of negotiations an
agreement has now been reached, it
is understood, whereby Bruce County
is brought within the Hydro fold. The
price involved in the purchase of the 14444++++++++++444+++++4.44004.44444,44.4444.444+++++++++

than $500.000. 'While the terms of
the agreement have not been an-
nounced, it is understood to be a

ation in the Bruse Peninsula.
The contrace for paving Provincial
Highway No. 4, from Kippen to Ex-
eter was awarded by the Provincial
Highways Department on Thursday
last to Boss & Brazier, the same firrn
• that laid the pavement last year
•from Clinton to Kippen. The dis-•
tance is 7.63 miles. In addition to this
contract tenders are now being called
for putting down 6.5 miles of pave-
ment between Lucan and the Middle-
sex-Huron
iddle-sexHuron County boundary, Tend-
ers for this stretch are to be in April
21st. Construction of the bridge a-
cross the Aux Sable between Clande-
boye and Lucan will also be in pro -
grew this summer. With the complet-
ion of these contracts this will leave
only five miles of road between Ex-
eter and Centralia to be paved to
complete the Highway from Goderich
to London. The average cost of
+ e::aent construction in the Prov-
!ince is a .bout. $25,000 a mile and the
counties shoulder 20 per cent, of the
