Chapman, as one of the committee and for the committee, made a few short introductory re- marks, introducing the talent and ex- pressing of th ss e Ma ons in having such a large crowd, The Wingham orchestra delighted the and ience from beginning to end with their fine selections. The programme was provided by two young men Sof Toronto. Lunch was served to a- bout fifty people at a time in the basement of the hall. The ladies of the United Church held a sale -of home cooking and a baked bean supper in the basement of the United Church on Saturday last whichwas a great success. The proceeds amounted to $101-75. The council have had the down. stairs part of the town hall nicely painted and decorated, giving it a very nice appearance. There has been nothing done to the hall since it was built sixteen years ago, and it was getting in need of repairs. tAn arrangement has been made between th Banks of Montreal and Commerce, whereby the Bank of Cern merce here will be closed, and its bus- iness taken over by the Bank of Montreal. While in the village of Ail- sa Craig the Bank of `Commerce is taking over the business of the Bank of Montreal, who is withdrawing their branch at that place. It was felt in both these places one bank could do the business that is being done. We regret to lose the bank of Comm- erce but it was felt by those institut- ions that the cost of keeping up the two was too great for the amount of business offered. The Hensall fire brigade put on a euchre and smoker in the fire hall on Monday evening last which was at- tended by about 75 from town and district.
