Evangelical Church Notes
• ZURICH — ONT.
When Mother's Selfsacrifice is not a
Virtue,
Self sacrifice is a head -liner among
all the virtues, but if it is e'. erdone it
works harm to both parties t'oncern-
ed. It has often caused mother to be-
come a doormat to be stepped upon
by those who want to live carefree.
irresponsible, and gratify their own
tastes and inclinations. A true mo-
ther sacrifices enough when doing so
normally. Don't ask her to drop en-
tirely out of social life in devotion to
her family. God does not want her
to suicide herself into exhaustion for
children who want to be pompered
and fondled One child likes chocol-
ate cake, another likes Angel cake,
and another jelly cake, should she
then set a limit to catering to every
whim and fancy? Should she care-
fuly save the girl's hands, or skimp
herself so the boys can keep ep with
rich chums and belong to brother-
hoods and clubs? No! Why? She
loses her child's lova and appreciation
and motherly regard. She makes her
child selfish, dutvless, selfcentred,
worthless, anarchistic When she sho-
uld teach her early to bear the yoke
of duty and the burdens of life. She
harms her, by unnecessary shielding
from bumps and cares, which the
world will afford to mamma's coddl-
ed darlings. The outside world is a
rough place for those who are raised
as pets and lawless autocrats. Will
your nature child be a problem and
a liability, or a force for good? Par-
ents it is up to you. Lot your child -
stand on hfs own feet, do his part,
take his turn, and he wil rise up to
bless and honor you and your church
and country.
