The regular monthly meeting of
the Village,.,Council was held on Mon
day evening last with all members
present.The CCourt for the revision
of the assessment roll will be held on
Monday evening, May 28th at 8
clock. A grant of $50. was allowed
for the Orangemen, who will celebr-
ate the 12th of July here. Geo.
Hudson was appointed as a special of-
ficer to enforce the Liquor Control
Act in the village. The matter of
tlie Black Creek Drain assessment
was discussed and an appeal will be
entered against the assessment. The
Clerk was instructed to write to the
Ontario Forestry Branch about get-
ting some young trees for the park.
The matter of oiling the streets was
. considered and did not: meet the ap-
proval of all the board, as they have
decided it would be better to spend
the money on gravel which would be
more beneficial than the oiling. The
Clerk was instructed to write to the
County Engineer about having a car
of oil put off at Hensall so that we
could take out what we need as
there will no doubt be some oil used
past week, attending the funeral of
his aged father.
A pageant entitled "Canada's Op-
portunity and responsibility" was giv-
en on Friday evening last by a com-
pany of thirteen ladies from Clinton.
The orchestra was also in attendance

in baseball was held the other even-
ing in the Town Hall to get organ-
ized and get a team ready to play this
summer. The following officers we-

Charles Skinner, a life-long resi-

Henry Cook,: son of the late Adara
Cook of Godesich township, passed
away on Saturday last in his eighty-
first year. The late Mr. Cook had
spent many years in Goderieh but
of late had resided in Clinton.
The Trail Rangers are going to
camp at Grand Bend this summer and
all the boys who desire to join them
will be welcome, and will be assur-
ed of a splendid outing as every-
thing possible will be done to give
them a good time .
Mrs. Geo. Hodgins, of Lucan, fell
recently and broke her hip. Tliir Is
the second time she has had her leg
broken.
Several from Exeter were at Clin-
ton the other evening attending a
meeting and banquet of the Orange
Order:
The Womens' Institutes of Ont-
ario have decided to engage a doctor
at Tobermory, to Iook after the.
health of residents of the Northern

ial fund to .subsidize a doctor for
that section.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Turner, of Green --
way, celebrated their golden Wedd
ing on April 9th. Mr. and Mrs.
Turner were married by Rev. Mr.
Hill in 1878, Mrs. Turner's maiden
name being Miss Mary Volk. After
a fewyears residence on the

concession they moved to tneir pres-
ent home on the Mollard Line, where
a family of six daughters and four
sons were born, all of whom are liv-
ing except the eldest daughter.
Wm. Cantelon, •an old citizen of
Clinton, passed away at. his home,
on Monday last in his nintieth year..
He had been an invalid for the past
nine years, having sustained a broken
hip as the result of a fall, from which
he never recovered. He was an old
resident of Clinton having spent most
of his time there, being a son of the
late Adam Cantelon, a pioneer settle..
He is survived by his wife, who nus-•
sed him through his long illness. Mr:.
David Cantelon of Hensall, being a
son of deceased., also one brother,.
David Cantelon of Clinton survives.
