certainly have proved quite serious

Maggie Schnell are oxpected hone
on a visit. We think this looks
rather suspicious.
Janes Howard and Louis Durand
took a course in business college at
Drysdale.
Mr. Ed Stelek met with quite a
bad accident in the flax mill by
getting one of his hands into the
knives.
Mr. L. Jeffery, of St. Joseph, has
started • a steam laundry in this
place. He does all kinds of laundry
on shortest notice.
Mr. J.Eliiott and family were the
guests of Mr. K. Rarick's last Sun-
day.
Mr. Louis Overholt, ofSt. Joseph,
the popular vocalist, has started a
singing school at the residence of
Mr. Fred Kalbfleisoh, of this burg,
which he hopes will be well attend-
ed. Come one, come all.
The Philadelphia string ban dis
reorganized. A meeting for this
purpose was held at Mr.Ed.Stelck's
one evening last week. The follow-
ing officers are elected :—President,

Blake evidently has lots of time to
study up yarns. He is the one who
tried to work in the mines long ago,
but as he looked more like a smoker
than a worker, he could not secure
a job.

Mr. J. Shoemaker, of Pigeon,
Mich,, visited at J. Hey's, Friday.
W. Geiger was to Hensall the lat-
ter part of last week.

G. Broderick was in Exeter Sun-
day evening.
Sol Martin had the misfortune to
lose a. valuable colt Sunday night.
Mr. Bissett, horse dealer, of Exe-
ter, passed through here on Mon-
day.

Division Court at Zurich on Tues-
day.
School was closed on Wednesday
to permit teacher and pupils to at-
tend the funeral of their ]ate com-
panion and friend.
Many from here attended the
funeral of the late Ellsworth Ran-
nie on Wednesday.
DEATH—Early Sunday morning
the grim destroyer, death, entered
the home of Mr. Samuel Rennie of
Zurich, but a late resident of this
place, claiming for his victim, his
son Ellsworth, aged 23 years, 4
months and 25 days. The late Ells-
worth Rennie had spent his boy-
hood and youthful days in our
midst, and was a young man of
sterling character, beloved by all
who knew slim, and his early death
has filled the hearts of his many
friends here with sorrow. His re-
mains were interred in the Babylon
Line cemetery on Wednesday after-
noon, and he now rests near his olcl
home. The heartfelt sympathy of
his many friends is extended to the
family In thoil+ sad bereavement.
He is absent from . the body to be
present with the Lord.
An Ohio elan, aged 112 years, is

A number of young people visited
at Henry Eicher's Thursday even-
ing last. The evening was spent in
profitable conversation and singing.

Mr. Peter Lamont's sale took
place on Friday. It being a favor-
able day quite a few were present.

the sale in his usual able manner,
Before Mr. Lamont leaves our 'burg
we hope that ho will see fit to ap-
point a constable for our burg so
that 210 more cake will bo stolen.
Mr. Joseph Gellman was to Zurich

The farmers have been slaking
good use of the sleighing hauling
grain, wood, etc., but the storm of

It is our sad. duty this week to
chronicle the death of Mrs. George
Armstrong, which took place on
Wednesday, Feb. 13th. Deceased
was a very kind, hospitable, per-
son, and a large circle of friends
and neighbors mourn her loss. She
has been in excellent health up to a
short time ago, and her death came
as a blow on the whole community.
The sympathy of the whole neigh-
borhood is extended to the sorrow-
ing family,

The quarterley services of the
Varna circuit were held in Bruce-
field on Sunday morning Fob. 3rd.
The anniversary services were
conducted by the Rev. Dr. Gifford
of Clinton at 3 p. nl.
At the meeting of the official
board held in Varna Tuesday after-
noon, Feb. 5th, a uuanlicus invita-
tion was gi4Ven to the pastor Rev.
J. W. Andrews to remain with
them the third year which was
accepted by him.
The Teameeting in connection
with the anniversary of the Metho-
dist church, Br ucefield held on
Monday evening was a grand suc-
cess in every way. Much credit
was dde to all who in any way took
part.
