SdGtAN: It was on the 19th of •July when "The Lake Huron" a vessel of the Beaver line left the harbor of Mon- treal, with 100 saloon passengers and 600 head of cattle aboard.. It was manned by mein of no mean type and commanded by'Mr.Tliom- as, a far -fanned and unci much respected sea captain, The other high officers were also leen of high standing in the marine line. Most of the officers had sailed in clays of yore, both the polar and tropical waters and hence could relate many wonderful and thrilling stories, of whioh they were very fond of doing in their spare hours. As a rule you are fed well on an English vessel and our treatment on the vessel was equal to the best. We were given four meals daily and were furnished with all kinds of fruit for a small tip. To many of the readers it might seem strange to be sent as you Might think, on a cattle boat, but there is no differ- ence and I much prefer such a boat to any other. I had the pleasure (if you could call it so) of codling back in one that carried passengers only and things were too crowded. The scenery along- the St.Lawrence at all times is beautiful, but during the months of July and Aug.it is at its hest. The vessel sailed slow- ly down the river and at 2.15, .in. Thursday drew new; the Citadel of Quebec. This city presents a fine appearance to the passing tourist. The city passed, the small French farms with their small white - Rev.
