Special to THE HERALD.
Last Friday a number of men
organized a hunting party, and
with guns and dogs made their way
over hill and dell to look for game.
They had not gone far when the
dogs"took the scent" and soon
were at some holes in the ground,
and by their barking and noise it
could be easily guessed that some
kind of game was not far distant.
Five racoons were capture&- the
biggest one weighed abont twenty-
five pounds. One of the gentlemen
had a, finger badly lacerated by the
teeth of one of the animals.

The Presbytery of Huron met at
the manse here, on Tuesday, Nov.
8. The Principal matter brought
before the meeting was a request
of Rev. Mr. Martin, of Exeter, that
Chiselhurst be separated from
Exeter and provision made for its
supply. Chiselhurst elders strong-
ly objected to the change stating
that Mr, Martin was greatly belov-
ed by the entire congregation and
that they were averse to union
with Kippen. Similar objections
were raised by Hillsgreen as to the
proposal to unite them with Varna.
After a thorough study of the sit -
nation the Presbytery decided to
not interfere with present condi-
tions.

Hick's Forecasts.
On and touching the 19th and
20th there will be a reactionary
swing of the elements back to more
general and decided storm condi-
tions. Depressed barometric con-
ditions will appear, the tempera-
ture will rise progressively from
the west, and autumnal storms of
rain and snow will take up their
transition march from west to east
over the country, and followed by
return of rising barometer and
change to much colder.
The last regular, general storm
period for November is from the
24th to 29th. As is indicated by
the storm diagram, this last period
is covered by the Venus distur-
bance which is central in Decem-
ber. The increasing force of this
Venus period will be severely felt
from about Friday the 25th to Mon-
day the 28th. But marked storm
conditions will appear about the
time of the full moon on the 25th.
Upon the whole, we warn our
readers of very general and force-
ful storms during the last six to
eight clays of November. These
storms will be largely boreal in
character, making navigation on
the north Atlantic disagreeable to
dangerous, causing heavy gales
over the whole lake regions, with
general rains over the interior,
turning to sleet and snow, with. an
early blizzard possible in western.
to northern parts of the country,
bringing frosts even into the
southern states, during the last
flays of the month.

The t)reminzu picture given this
year with the Fancily Herald and
Weekly Star of Montreal is a decid-
ed &range from former years. It
1 is entitlea"Tlle Princess at Work,"
and i. ])roving immensely popular.
These who have received. their
copies pronounce it easily worth
snore than the entire year's sub-
scription to that great paper. The
publisher's aro on the look out for
energetic canvassers in every lo-
cality, Any smart boy or girl can
imam , lots of pocket money for
Christmas by writing to the pub-
lishers.
A Toronto man of standing said
the other day that he had found
I nothing that came so near to pro-
viding the elixir of life as does a
bright daily newspaper. It stimu-
lates one to take a lively interest
in events adze world around. He
'vent further, and declared that the
paper which provided this peren-
nial stimulant to the greatest de-
gree was Tho Toronto Daily Star.
The Star's brightness is not,how-
ever, the only factor which has
contributed to its marvelous sue-
dess in the daily newspaper field.
The Star has a complete and accur-
ate record of stook and commercial
transactions daily, which business
men may consult with confidence.
On the staff of The Star are three
women writers, who compile a page
which makes The Star very popular
around the fireside. The Star's
editorials are not blindly partizan,
but are fair, sane, and strong. Mr,
0. W. Jeforys, The Star's black
and white artist, is probably the
best in Canada, and his contribu-
tions to the paper are a feature of
great charm. Altogether, a more
evenly balanced newspaper it is
impossible to find, and it goes witlts
out saying that a daily' newspaper
of sonic sort should go . into every
home.
You may get The Star and the
paper you are reading from now
until December 81st, 1905, for $1..75.
