Our football team went to Exeter
on Tuesday evening of last week
and played a game of football with

of the second half the score was
2-0 in favor of Crediton.

very busy the past few weeks. He
repainted the dwellings of Messrs.
Dan Sweitzer and. J. H. Holtzman,
which has greatly improved their

Mrs, McMurray and family, visit-

another open air concert. A large

School opened on Monday morn-
ing last with a good attendance.
The Evangelical church of this
place will be the centre of attrac-
tion on Sunday next, it being the
date set for the annual Children's
Day of the Sunday school. Rev. E.
Kelhofer, of Harrington, Wash.,
the newly appointed %missionary to
(china will be present and preach in
the German language in the morn-
ing, and in the evening will give
a missionary address. .Also speeches
by Rev. Mr. Yaeger and Rev. Mr.
CIemens, also choruses and motion
songs by the scholars. Everybody
should try and be present as a

Berlin, Ont., Aug. 16.—The heav-
iest hail and rain storm for some
years passed over the northeastern
portion of the town this afternoon,
and did considerable damage. Over
400 window panes in the Ontario
Sugar Co.'s refinery were broken.
In Bridgeport every house had win-
dows broken. Hailstones over an
inch in diameter were numerous.
It is a mistake to think that all
the responsibility for snaking a
municipality prosperous rests upon
the five or more men who are elect-
ed from year' to year and are called
the council. If every man who
owns property in a municipality, or
who is interested in the place where
he earns his livelihood would do
something towards the town's ad-
vancement, much more would re-
sult than can be accomplished by
any who giventakeratepayers
may choose to thla
