Mr. Merner got in a carload of

C. T. U. will be held at the home of
Mrs. 5, Rannie, on Monday after-
noon., Nov. 2nd, at quarter to three
o'clock.
Mr. Henry Lang and son left for-
their home in Ruth, Michigan, on
Saturday. Mr. Lang still has a
kind of hankering for this part of
Huron County.

advertisements are disappearing
from the columns of THE HERALD
and others will follow suit as soon
as their contracts expire.
The first snow made its anpear-
anre here this fall on Friday the
23rd, melting as it fell. This is
five days earlier than last year,
when it visited this section on the
28th of October.

The annual meeting of the Upper,
Canada Bible Society, the Zurich
Branch. will be held on Monday
evening, Nov. 2, at 8 o'clock, in the
Evangelical church, the Rev. S. R.
Knechtel, agent of the Society, will
address the meeting. All are invit-
ed to attend.
The teacher of the Public School
wishes ns to announce that three
books, ''Clive in India," " Uncle
Tom's Cabin" and A22," have not
been returned, and respectfully re-
quests that they be returned at
once, as sonde changes are to be
made in the. library.
On Saturday afternoon, Mrs,
Fred Witwer entertained some 21
youngsters at a party, given• in
honor of her son's first birthday.
The young- gentleman received
upwards of a score of presents and
one and all say they hacl a swell
time and a first class supper.
The following parties intend
leaving on Tuesday next for a. two
weeks' bunt, a few miles south of
Grand Bend, where they have a
cottage and the necessary fnrnish-

to the visitor coning from larger
places, but as a business centre, it
is all right. Asan instance of this
we might mention that one day last
week, Mr. Merner disposed of no
less than sixteen overcoats and it
was not a good day for over -coats
either, besides one. of then' was a
valuable fur. Not niany places,
even in towns or•cities, can boast
of a similar record for one day, in
one article of wearing apparel.
It is with regret that we'are this
week called upon to chronicle the
death of one of our former citizens
in the person of Cora, only and
clearly beloved daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Hamacher, who' left Zurich
two or three months ago for Sani-
Inc Centro, Mich„ to engage in the
shoe business. Miss Hamacher had
been ailing for some time with that
most dreaded of all diseases—con-
sumption—and her friends feared
the worst for some time past
though still hoping for her re-
covery. The (disease continued to
make progress, however, and she
gradually became weaker and
weaker nntil Monday morning last,'
when she finally breathed her last, i -
