We have heard nothing' of the
proposed slraidng rink. There is
plenty of time to construct a rink
before winter, if the right parties
would. take hold.
A higher standard of answering
at the examinations for entrance
into the faculties of education, and
into the normal and model schools
will hereafter be exacted by the
department of eduoation . This is
in pursuance of the policy adopted
of improving the gnalifications of
teachers. The age of.admissioi. in
each cage will also be raised one
year. To prevent a scarcity of
teachers as a result of the abolition
of the county- model schools, the
Minister of Edenton will. on the
inspector's : recommendation, ex-
tend over until June 30 next year
any certtfioate expiring in the
meantime.
We love the man with roses on
his tongue ; the man who sees the
boy's dirty face but mentions his
bright eyes ; who notices your
shabby coat, but praises your stu-
dious habits the man who sees the
faults, butis giuck to ' praise and
slow to blame. We like to meet a
man:NT/hose :singe would brighten
deadness, whose voice is full of the
music of the bird, whose handshake
is an 'inspiration. He makes us
forget our troubles as the raven's
croak is forgotten when the wood
thrush sings. God bless the man
of cheer l There is plenty of troub•
le here and we need not increase it.

of Mr, G. Dunk, of Toronto was
present and. he did some fine work,
although he was beaten by our
notorious Charlie and Mr. Fred
