Mr. D. S. Faust left on Tuesday
to spend the week at Toronto Fair.

Mr. Preeter's dwelling is ready
for the roof and when completed
will bo the finest house in town.
Mr. E. O. Weber of Berlina will
give an address in the Evangelical
church next Sunday morning and
evening.
If you have a piece of swamp on
your farm, dont drain it. Plant
tadpoles, and raise frogs, then sell
the hops to the nearest brewery.
Mr. Fred Demuth, who has been
rather weak for some weeks, is not
recovering his strength as rapidly
as his friends would like to see.
The directors of the Fair have
arranged to give a grand concert
here on Show night. Plan of hall
at post. office and at HERALD office.
Mr. Henry Kalbfleisch had a
rather -severe attack of illness, last
week, but he is reported to be bet-
ter, which his friends will be pleas-
ed .to hear.
The very hot and dry spell of
the past few weeks ' has not been
favorable to the farmers for get-
ting their fall -wheat fields ready
for seeding.
John C. Gleason the New York
lawyer has sued Barry K. Thaw,
for 8Go,000 counsel fees for defend-
ing hint at his trial, for murdering
Stanford White.
Mrs. Mary Ann Morris and son
Stephen, and grand slaughter Alma,
from NPatford visited at the home
of Mrs. Morris brother, Mr. Pater
Woolley, the latter part of last
week.
Mr. Edward Dignan of the nth
Con., had a very successful sale of
implements on Tuesday. Mr.
Thomas Brown of Seaforth wielded
the hemmer and good prices• were
realized, especially on horses.

'P. Lamont shipped a car of cat•
tle and a car of sheep and lambs to
Toronto, this week. He also ship-
ped three ears of export cattle a
few weeks ago, to London, Glas•
gow and Liverpool.
Mrs. Deters, who is well and
favorably known here died at the
Bone of her sen Fred, near 'Jensen
on Monday morning, having reach-
ed the age of about 85 years. Tho
funeral took place on. Tuesday
afternoon, the interment taking
place in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Rev, Maass, pastor of the Lutheran
church, conducted the funeral ser-
vice. She leaves, besides the above
• named son, two other sons, Henry
and. Edward and a large number of
other relatives anti friends throu-
ghout, the Township,
Dr. G E. Wilson If, R. C. S., and
wife, are visiting at the home of
Dr. and Mrs. Wilson.
Miss Vevey Witwer left far De-
troit on Thursday morning, ,'where
she expects to remain for a while.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Seim are
entertaining the former's two
sisters from New Hamburg, at
present. •
Miss Mollie Wurm of Chicago
arrived in town on Wednesday
evening, for a. few weeks' visit
with relatives.
Mr. A. Mittelholtz is in the mar-
ket for fall and winter apples He
will be in town every Saturday
evening. Highest prices paid.
Mrs. Fred Kilgus, of Louisville,
Kentucky, is paying a visit to her
brother-in-law, Mr. Jac. Haberer
and family of the Blind Gine,
Mr. Tallman Wurm has accented l
a position with J. Preeter as head
clerk in the dry goods department.
Tall's many friends will be pleased
to see him hack.
The Hewers of London will put
up a splendid concert here on Fair
night, and everybody should ar-
range to be there, Fuller particu-
lars next week.

will leave Clinton for Exeter about
7.30 or 8 o'clock in the evening.
