seem to be demanded that this
country should imperil' her progress
and exhaust her resources in tak-
ing up the burden of inilitarism
that is crushing the nations of Eu-
rope. Canada Can alo more to build
up the Empire and strengthen it,
by fighting the battles of peace and
progress—by realizing her poten-
tiality to become the granary of
the Empire—than by building

P. H. Bowyer, editor of the
Eidgetown Dominion, 14 I. L. A. for
East Kent;, has introduced a bill
into the Legislature. to give tuuni-
ctpalities power to grant a prize,
not exceeding $10, for the best kept
roadside, farin front and farm
house surroundings in each public
school section in the township, and
for•preseribing the condition upon
which sueli prizes may be com-
peted for and awarded. Some far-
mers are neat and tasty about their
surroundings, others are not, and
there is room for improvement in
this respect A prize winner in
each school section might prove a
stimulius, and the result would not
only improved appearances, but in-
creased value to the farm.
