The Anniversary services held here
were a decided success. The church
was crowded for both services. Rev.
Mr. Scobie of Belgrave, preached two
fine sermons. The thank -offering a-
mounted to $180.00.
Mrs. W. A. Cathers is at present
suffering from a severe attack of ton-
silitis. We hope to see her all right
soon again.
Mrs. Wm . Weir received, the sad
news of the death -of her brother, Mr.'
Wm, Lindsay of Emerson, Man.

ding the past few weeks with her sis-

the Fordwich Fair on Saturday.

ored to Detroit on Sunday, returning
Tuesday.
Mr. Smith is making some improve-
ments in the grist mill lately purchas-
ed from T. G. Hemphill.

ing of. the season was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Apple-
by on Friday night. A large crowd
gathered and the evening was spent
in cards and dancing. Lunch was ser-
ved by the ladies after which a hearty
vote of thanks was extended to Mr.
and Mrs. Appleby for their hospitaity,

Mr, and Mrs. J. B. Kelly of Goder-
ich, were visitor,•"s in town on Sunday.
Mrs. (Dr.) Milne's many friends are
pleased to know that she is doing nice-
ly after a serious internal operation.
The Women's' Institute ' met on
Thursday afternoon in the Memorial
Hall, the meeting being largley at-
tended and proved to be the most in-
teresting held for some time. The
president, Mrs. Whiteman, presided.
Mrs. Win. Craig was appointed as'a
delegate to the Walkerton Convention
held October 18th and 19th. 'A pleas-
ing feature on' the programme was
the presentation to John . James Sib-
thorpe, infant son of Mn and Mrs.
Stanley Sibthorpe, with a bank book
with a credit for $100 this; is a little
recognition from the Institute to any
baby born to an Institute member,
"Conserving the health of mothers",
was the subject of an excellent ad-
dress given by Dr. J. C. Ross in a
very concise manner. He outlined the
parental also post natal care necessary
if women expect to enjoy good health
in later years, also the care and safe
guarding the children. A hearty vote
of thanks. was tendered the doctor for
his very instructive address.

to his home through illness

Mr.. William' Taylor has been hi
London undergoing a surgical opera-
tion. We are pleased to report his
condition is somewhat improved; and
which is most gratifying to his many
friends.

Church met in the school room of the
church, on Tuesday afternoon, October
2nd.. The president presiding. Mrs.
Roy Turvey read the scripture lesson
and Mrs, Eldred Nichol lead in prayer.
Mrs. C. Adams read a most interest-
ing chapter from the study book. The
Chinese in ' Canada." Mrs. (Rev.)
Prichard from Molesworth, gave a
few very important facts aid ideas
from the W. M. S. provincial held in
Guelph, and Mrs. Thos. Simpson, the
Home Helpers' secretary, gave a short
talk on that line of work, impressing
the fact that every woman be a W.
M. S. Worker. Mrs. Prichard closed
the meeting with prayer.
The Ladies' Aid areplanning a con-
test for the ladies of the congrega-
tion. The most useful article made
from a flour sack. The articles will
be sold at an apron and home made
baking sale towards the end of Octo-
ber.
There will be no service in the
Presbyterian Church next Sabbath on
account of Anniversary services in
Eadies' Church, when Rey. Mr. Mc-
Donald of Lucknow, will preach mor-
ning and evening.
