misfortune to have twin colts die,
one day last week.
Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Moore spent
one day last week at Palmerston
with his brother, Mr. Wesley Moore.
Mr. John Laidlaw is suffering
from a bruised knee, which he re-
ceived one day last week, when a
horse which he was leading was
startled and jumping forward knock-
ed him.down and tramped on his leg.
Mrs. Jackson, of Wingham, is vis-
iting with her sister, Miss C. Laid-
law.
Mr. Harry Bailey, of Wingham, is
visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Amos Cornelius.
On June 19th, Rev. G. P. Duncan
of Stratford, will preach Anniversary
Services in Chalmer's Church. Mr.
Duncan is a former pastor here.
Rev. J. Pollock will attend the
meeting of the Assembly in London
during this week.
Mr. Frank Wocks and his daugh-
ter, Miss Hazel, of Teeswater, spent
the 24th with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley
Leggatt and other relatives here.
Our village has been greatly inter-
ested in the 7th Annual Rural Mus-
ical Festival of Bruce County which
was held in Lucknow on Thursday
and Saturday of last week and quite
a number from these parts compet-
ed. Among those who won prizes
were: Miss Agnes Gillespie, a vocal
solo; Miss Lela Leggatt, a piano
solo; Miss Dorothy 'Pollock and Mr.
Jack Pollock, violin solos; Bert Cul-
lamore, readings; and Mr. Chas.
Martin, a mouth -organ selection.
Lucknow won the cup for the year
and also won. a shield for the choir.
The following from Guelph were the
adjucators: Mrs. Jessie Hill, Miss
Queen, Prof. Blackwood, B.A., Fc.
and Mr. Calvert M.A. •
Miss Mary Weir, of Hamilton, at-
tended the funeral of her grandmo-
ther, at Fordwich, last week, and vis-
ited at her home here.
Mr. and Mrs, Fred Newman, of
Hamilton, spent Sunday with Mr. i
and Mrs..B. S. Naylor.
Mr. Chas. Shiell had to do away
with several head of cattle last week
on account of an outbreak of black-
leg. These he had on a grass farm
on the 10th con. of W. Wawanosh.
Other farmers are having their cat-
tle vaccinated against this disease.
Mrs. Fred Davidson is attending
the graduation exercises of the.nurs-
es of the Hamilton General Hospital
on Thursday, June 2nd. Her daugh-
ter, Miss IVlary Weir, is one of the
graduates.

her daughters, Mrs. Harry Hackett,
and Mrs. Thomas Hackett, 10th con,

noon with their sister, Mrs. Roy Al-
ton.
Master Albert Phillips, near For-
dyce, spent the 24th with his uncle,
Mr. Dynes Campbell and Mrs.
Campbell.
Mr. and Mrs. Linfield Anderson,
of Detroit, spent Saturday afternoon
with the latter's uncle, Mr. Will
Baldwin and Mrs. Baldwin.
Mr, Ralph Cameron spent a few
days with his cousins, Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Purdon, 9th con., West Wawa

Mr. and Mrs. Elsner Parrish and
children, near Auburn, spent Satur-
day afternoon` with. his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Farrish, 10th con.
Mr:. Palmer Kilpatrick, near Mafe-
king, principal, of Dungannon school
for three years has sent in his resig-
nation : which was accepted with
much regret, Mr. Kilpatrick intends
going to University in the fall.
On Thursday afternoon, May 26,
a very highly respected citizen Pass-
ed away in the person of Mrs. Win,
Jamieson, 10th con., at the home of
he.r son, Mr. Ewart Jamieson, and
Mrs. Jamieson, with whom she lived. -
She had been in poor Health for a

her aged mother, Mrs. Thomas. Ed -
wart Finlay, Dakota, and two sisters,
Mrs. Wm. Agar (Minnie), Dakota,
and Mrs. John Jamieson (Ida), near
Paramount, one sister, Mrs. Reid
(Maggie), predeceased her about 30
years and three brothers, Anson,
Bert, Ewart and Finlay, all in the
West. One daughter (Ray) Mrs.
Boak, out West, and one son, Ewart,
Her father predeceased her a few
years ago, and her husband, Mr. W.
Jamieson, predeceased her 20 years
ago. The funeral was held on Sat-
urday afternoon to Greenhill cemet-
ery. Rev. Mr. Hannah, of Ripley,
conducted the funeral services: The
palbearers were: Messrs. David Lit-
tle, Robert Nelson, Wilfred Farrish,
Adam Johnstone, George Drennan
and John Little. We extend our sin-
cere sympathy to the bereaved.
On a wet day a young man driv-
ing a sports ear was forced to brake
very suddenly, with the result that
the car got out of control for a 'mo-
ment and ended within an inch of 'a
lamp -post on the other side of the
'road,
A policeman strolled ttp.
"I say sir," he said, "you got a
nice skid there."
"Pardon me," replied the young
man, haughtily, "this lady is my
wife."
