during the past few weeks.
On Saturday, when Mr. Herson Ir-
win and Mr. Stuart _McBurney were
clearing out a line fence and chop -
pin; the trees out, one, when falling
swung around and struck Stuart on
the right leg above the knee, break-
ing the leg. Neighbors were called
to help get him home and since it has
been set, he<is getting along nicely,
Mr. T)avidson, from Mornington, a
brother-in-law, is doing his chores
now. We wish him a speedy recov-
ery.

Mr. and Mrs. George Baptist, ' of
Teeswater, spent Thursday last with
Mr. and Mrs, Robt. J. Ross.
Rev. Kenneth Beaton, formerly a
missionary in W. China, and now se-
cretary of the United Church; gave
a very interesting address in the Un-
ited Church here on Sunday after-
noon, stressing the great need of 'the
church for young people and chall-
enging them with the difficulties that
are still to be overcome. He spoke
of the trouble caused by race preju-
dice and antagonism in 13.C. and in
the United States, in India, China
and japan, and the great value of
p, ace, in the Christian enterprise.
His forceful and interesting address
On Monday evening, illustrated with
lantern slides, which he had taken in
his work, was greatly appreciated.
While here he was the guest of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert McClenaghan.

interesting and instructive talk on

China, Japan and Russia. Mr: Pat -
1 terson was a chaplain in Russia dar-
ling the \World War, and gave his
impressions of these countries at that
time and his ideas of conditions at
the present. Mr. Patterson is a very
pleasing speaker and was enjoyed, by
alt who heard him. After the pro-
gram, a social half hour was spent,
and the ladies served refreshments.
George Yeo and son; Spalding, mo-
tored to London on Tuesday to spend
the day with Mrs. Yeo who is in the
hospital there,
Mrs. Archie Messer and slaughter,
Margaret, visited with David and
Miss McAllister at Dungannon,
Deer are becoming quite tame in
this district. One day recently three
walked quietly up Edward Johnston's
lane, leaked around then turned and
rare off.
Rev. Mr. Patterson, of Vancouver,
P.C., who has spent the last week in
the village, left on Tuesday to spend
a few days with his friend, Rev. A.
G. ivtcl'lherson, at Listowel.
A very delightful Valentine Social
was held by the Young People of the
Ileited Church on Friday, 19th. A
large number of the Young People
came together, and also a good num-
ber of the older members of the com-

The Belgrave Branch of the 1Vo-
men's Institute held its annual social
in the Fbresters' Hall Friday night,
when there was a good attendance of
members and friends. The first part
of the evening was spent i:n playing
games, euchre, crokinole and check-
crs. This was followed by a pro-
gram consisting of all joining in sing-
ing The. Maple Leaf; piano instru-
mental, Velma Wheeler and Miss
Florence Walton; mouth organ sel-
ection, Will Thompson and. Robert
Gulley; violin diet, Nora 'VartCamp
and Freda Jordan; reading, Mrs: F.
McCallum; vocal duet, Geo. Jordan
