If yeti are overburdened with superfluous flesh, call up reserves of energy to fight it: Do as this lady did :-- " Du'ring the past six months, I have made steady improvement whilst taking Kruschen Salts. I have reduced 28 lbs. in weight during that period, and have benefited greatly from greater agility and liveliness—all directly .attributable to that famous preparation,"—Mrs. W. P. You can take off fat with Kruschen Salts if you will take..one•half teaspoon in hot water every morning before breakfast, modify your diet and' exercise regularly. While you are losing fat you will be gaining in energy --in endurance—in ambition. Iour•skin will grow cclearer, and your eyes will sparkle with the good health that Kruschen brings. The old arni chair won't hold yon any More—you'll want to be up and doing— • ou'll enjoy work and active recreation and you'll sleep like a top. You'll lose fat, and probably live years longer.. Why should this have been the case? Never in the history of an inaugural meeting in Howick was ,there such a grand opening given. The' two res- ident clergymen of the village offic- iated at the opening. Rev. R. S., Jones of the Anglican Church, gave a Scripture reading followed by pray- er by Rev. G. Butt, of the United Church. The Storm, we believe, ar- ose when the "drastic" new deputy- reeve brought in a motion of a 25% cut in all salaries of officials, second- ed by the councillor of the south east division. An amendment was voted on and carried by the remaining members of council for a 20% cut. A. heated discussion arose but no de- cisions arrived at. We believe appli- cations are called for, for all offices, the sante to be in the Clerk's office by Saturday, the 23rd.. Ratepayer. In case some of Howick readers a're. not subscribers to' the Fordwich Record, Ive publish below the article referred to, Officials Refuse Salary Cuts We are informed that the inaug- ural meeting of Howick Council, in Gorrie, on Monday, was anything but a peace conference. It appears that Mr, F. C. Taylor, the new deputy - reeve, in his pre-election campaign, advocated a 40% cut in all municipal officers' • salaries. Unlike sonic poli- ticians ,he . didn't "forget" his policy after being elected, although we un- derstand the cut which he proposed at Monday's meeting was 'not so drastic as he first intimated, It was more, however, than the men who do the intricate work of the municipal- ity would agree to, The controversy which ensued failed to make' the sub- ject more agreeable, so the matter is for the present in abeyance, and is to be decided (?) at a .special meeting' in the near future. In the meantime .the officials, are doing their week as usual. WROXETER The W. M. S. of the United church held its first monthly meeting of the new year, on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. T. Gibson, with anattendance of 21. Mrs, Gibson presided and the meeting was opened with the hymn,' "Standing at the Por- tal," after which the 23rd Psalm was repeated in unison. The Scripture reading was the Beautitudes, taken from Matt. 5, At the conclusion of the business items, the annual re- ports 'from the secretaries of the var- ious departments were received and showed splendid results from the. year's activities, and the objective of $300.00 reached. The roll call was well responded to and many beautiful and encouraging thoughts expressed. Greetings were extended to Mrs. R. J, Ram, a faithful member of the Society, who was recently made a life member by a number of her friends. .A round table conference on the fol- lowing topic "What has interested you most in the year's progrannni,?" "What has • benefitted you?" "What would you suggest to make our :meet- ings more helpful and interesting," and ''Haw can all women of the church be enlisted?" was conducted, by the president and proved interest- ing.
