The boys, tvho were living there had
left for town after four o'clock in' the
afternoon and'. stayed' with their .sis-
ter, Mrs:. Currie, over night, but were
called home about three a.ni. when
the fire was noticed by neighbours,
there was some insurance, Their
barn was burned some years ago.
Mr. Calvert Falconer of Culross,
held a very successful sale on Tues-
day last, even though it was a rainy
clay. The auctioneer, Mr. John Pur-
vis of Holyrood 'was; getting into his
buggyto go to this sale when he
collapsed in a sudden heart . attack.
Mr. Elliott Miller was quickly sum-
moned to carry on at the sale. Mr.
and Mrs. Falconer and son. purpose
leaving in a few weeks to spend the
summer in the West. Mrs. Falconer
had the misfortune to . put her ankle
out of joint one day last week and
she will be staying for some with
Mrs. Lester Falconer.
The World's Day of Prayer will be
observed . in the United Church here
by the W. M. S. of Chalmer's church
and the W.M.S.' df the United church.
All the women areinvited to be pres-
ent on Friday, March 7th, for this
meeting
Mrs. James Barbour of Fordyce is
spending a few days with her dau-
ghter, Mrs. Ben McClenaghan.
Mrs, Roy Patton of Lucan spent a
few days last week with her mother,
Mrs. Fox.
Miss Pauline Reed of Listowel,
spent the week -end with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Bert. Reed.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Purdon visit-
ed on . Monday with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Archie Anderson of St.
Helens.
Mrs. Will Greer of Wingham and
Annie Simpson of Jaspar, Alta., ,are
visiting with the latter's sister, Mrs.
Frank Henry.
Much sorrow is felt in this com-
munity for the passing away of Mr.
John Purvis, who, for so many years
has been so well knownin both Hur-
on County andin his own county of
Bruce.
Mr. Mac Ross is laid up these days
and is under the Doctor's care.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnston Conn en-
tertained a number of their friends
and neighbours on Friday evening of
last week.
The Women's Institute are holding
a box -social in their hall on Thurs-
day night, March 6th.

At, a meeting of the business mien
of Listowel' held last week it was de-
cided to hold an Old Boys' Reunion
during the month of August',
Bread Prices Drop
On Monday of this week the price
of bread at:the local bakeries dropped
from 11c to .10c per loaf. This will
be pleasant news to'those who pur-
chase their supply of the staff of life.
Special Services at Baptist Church
A week of special services were
held in the Victoria Street Baptist
Church by Rev, Thomas J. Mitchell
of London, with'their final meeting
being held in the Lyceum Theatre on
Sunday evening at the close of the
regular church services, the Theatre
being about three-quarters filled.'
