G. Newton picked a choice tulip from

fectly formed flower and attached to
the stem was a well shaped leaf, how-
ever, three-quarters of the leaf was
the same shade as the petals. Anoth-
er choice tulip was one in Mr. E. W.
Carsons' garden with four perfect
blooms on one stem.

Friends of Mrs. Jas. Stewart are
sorry to learn of her accident which
occurred . when she was alighting
from the train at Fergus station re-
cently, when she broke her leg.
The regular meeting of the Mission
Circle took the form of a quilting in
the basement of the United Church
on Friday afternoon, with a good at-
tendance. During the business period
which was conducted by the Presi-
dent, Mrs. A. A. Taylor, Miss Mar-
jorie Baker gave an interesting report
on the convention held recently in
Thames Rd. Church. The meeting
closed with prayer.
Mrs. Welsh, Mr. S. Greer and dau-
ghter, Miss Melba, also Jack Berry,
all of Toronto, attended the funeral
of the /ate William" Hueston, and
spent weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Walker.
Rev. Colquhoun, formerly of Ash-
field, will conduct the services in the
Presbyterian Church here on Sunday
next, as Rev. Leggatt will attend the
General Assembly held at Peterbor-
ough. Mrs. Leggatt is accompanying
him.

nual Garden Party on June 23rd in
Victoria Park: The society have been
fortunate in procuring the play "Wil-
lowdale" which is to be staged by the
young people of Drayton. This has
been given a number of times, and is
well worth seeing.
As Mrs. Herzog, a valued member
of the society, is leaving the com-
munity, . she was presented with a
chesterfield table. A suitable address
was read by the President, Mrs. W.
King, wink the secretary, Mrs. F.
C. Taylor, presented same. Rev, R.
S. Jones then closed the meeting with
the prayers and a social time was
spent white the hostess, assisted by
Miss Margaret Foster, served a very
dainty lunch.

LIBRARY BOARD
ANNOUNCE MEETING
The Wroxeter Library Board is
calling r
a nimportant >W; p ,tent tattling in the
town Hall at 8 pen. Friday, June 9,
to decide whether or not the Lib-
rary is to be kept open or closed for
good. For the last two years it has
had about $170.00 per annuin to
spend. This sunt was got together
chiefly through the generosity of the
Women's
Institute, the young people
of
the village who got tip entertain -
Meets to raise money, for the pur-
pose, and from small grants from the
township an
d
province.
That
was
barely enough to pay the Librarian's
r
solar}, and other expenses of keep-
ing the library open. Very few new
books have been purchased and as a
result interest in the library has de -
dined. This year even this small stria'
will not be available. .Citizens who.
cheerfully pay heavy school tares, ap-
pear to forget that the library in its
way, is just as important to educa-
tion.
The 'Wroxeter public library
opened in 1872 in time was
s as difficult
as these by the pioneers of the dis-
triet'and if allowed to die now, it
will be a tail treflectiotz on the Intel•
