December Meeting
The last regular meeting of the
Seaforth town council for 1945 was
held in the council chambers on
Monday evening with' all members

LIONS CLUB PLAN
ORATORICAL CONTEST
The annual Oratorical Contest for
Secondary School pupils, sponsored
by the Seaforth. Lions Club, will be
held on Friday, January 4th, probably
in the Seaforth High School auditor-
ium, The subject for this year—
which is uniform For all such, contests
throughout,,the Provinces of Ontario
and Quebec, -will be "Canada's Fut-
ure as a Nation:" Parents, and citi-
zens generally, are asked to keep t'he
date open, so that this worth -while
effort in the encouragement of young
speakers may receive the public. Sup

MEETING OF SEAFORTH
BOWLERS AND CURLERS
The annual joint meeting of the
Seaforth Bowling Club and the Sea -
forth Curling Club was held Mon-
day night. W. J. Duncan, the retir-
ing president oe the bowlers,
thanked' the officers for their co-
operation during the past year, and
paid special tribute to the women,
stating that Seaforth had an excel-
lent women's club which co-operated
100 per cent, giving considerable
money wbich helped to build the
modern fireplace in the club house.
The treasurer's report, given by
0, NI. Smith, showed the bowling
club to be in good financial stand-
ing, Charles P. Silas, chairman of
the grounds committee, stated that
the grounds and building of the
bowling club were in better condi-
tion than ever before. George John-
stone, convener of local tourna-
ments, reported the "success of local
tournaments held throughout the
season.

bowling club resulted as follows:

for last year's curling were present-

The Mae Lane Auxiliary of North-
side United Church held their
Christmas meeting on Tuesday even-
ing, Dec. 11 at 8 o'clock in the base-
ment of the church. A background
of Christmas greens and lighted
candles made a pretty setting

the candlelight service. Mrs, Moffat,
Cpt. of circle 4 had charge and
opened the meeting by reading a
poem "Candle"light,. burning bright"
A duet by Lois Hoggarth and Helen
Currie was beautifully Tendered
accompanied on the piano by Mrs.
,Grace Hoggarth. The scripture was
read by Mrs. Moffat after which we
sang the hymn "The race that long
in darkness pined." Several members'
of the junior choir then sang Christ-,
mas carols responsively between
scripture readings. A solo His Holy.
Hour" was delightfully sung by Miss
Lois Hoggarth, accompanied by Mrs,
James Stewart at the piano. After
singing "As with. gladness men of
old" Lois again favoured with
solo, "The First"Nowell" with the
audience joining'in on the chorus.
Mrs. Workman led in prayer and
"It came upon a midnight clear"
was sung. The choir then sang `How
Silently" and was much enjoyed.'
An interesting Christmas story
"Where love is, there God is" was
told by Miss Fennell and was much
enjoyed. Mrs. Goudio, 2nd vice -prey.
then took the chair and read a poem
entitled, "Courtesy" Prayers were
offered by Miss Wilma Seip and
Mrs, A. Westcort, Minutes of No-
vember meeting were read by the

reports were given by the various

S. and W. A. of Cavan, Winthrop,
was held on Wed. Dec. 5 in the
church. Hymn 71 was sung as a call
to Worship, followed with prayer
by Mrs. R. MacFarlane. The roll
call, "A Xmas thought" was answer-
ed by twenty-four members, Mrs. A.
Ross gave a temperance reading en-
titled "Victory before Beer." Re-
ports were given by all the officers
in connection with W.M.S. and W.
A. and each one showed a success-
ful yeas.. A vote of thanks to all
officers and returning officers was
given by Mrs. MacFarlane and Mrs.
C. Hillen. The worship period was
opened by singing verses 1 and 2 of
hymn 51. "0 Little Town of Beth-
lehem The scripture lesson, Luke
2; 7.22 was read by Mrs, E. Hawley.
Mrs. Patton led in prayer, Then fol-
lowed. the singing of .three Xmas
carols: "While Shepherds'watched
their flocks," "Silent Night, Holy
Night," "The First Nowell." A Xmas
reading was given by Mrs. R. Bol-
