Mr, Ben Kaiser of Detroit and: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kaiser of Chicago vis- ited during the past week with their parents, Mr, and Mrs, John Kaiser, The Exeter-Hensall Branch of the Canadian Legion are holding a bingo and dance in the town hall, Hensall, on Friday evening, April. 13th, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Willert and Mr. Ezra Willert moved' last week to their farms near Russeldale. Miss Goldie Cross of London vis- ited recently. with heir parents, Mr: and Mrs. W. B. Cross. Mrs. Harold Hill of Brantford and Mrs. Orville Forrest' of Beaver, Man., visited recently with Mr..and Mrs. Chas. Forrest. Bride and Groom Honored-- About 300 relatives and friends gathered in the town hall, Hensall, on Monday night to honor Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hay (nee Verna` Mac- Lean), who were recently married. During the evening the bride and groom were presented with a chest- erfield suite.. The address was read by Jack McKay. Dancing was enjoy- ed to music by Nelson Howe's orch- estra. Miss Marguerite McDonald spent several days in Toronto recently. Council Meeting The regular meeting of the village F• fr council was held Tuesday ev at 8 o'clock in the Council Chamber with all members being present. Minutes of the previous meeting read. H. Hyde, A. W. Kerslake - the minutes be adopted as read. Carried. Miss C. Mitchell appeared re Insulin Assessment, also present- ed a letter requesting the sum of $5,000.00 for the treatment she has received, from the Municipality,. sante filed. Mr. R. J. Paterson, the assessor, presented the 1945 assess- ment roll with a total assessment of 8431,874. and a population of 618, a drop of 13. Also reported the tax arrears asking $138.40 and handed in the collectors roll. Motion by Mr. Moir and A. W. Kerslake, that the 1945 assessment roll as handed in by the assessgr, be accepted and salary paid. Carried. J. Kyle report- ed C. Jinks asking permission to put in a driveway in front of his shop. Miss June Kennedy returned to her home in Hamilton, after holiday- ing with relatives and friends here. Misses Barbara Michie of Bel - grave and June Brandon of Bay- field returned to recommence their duties at the public school - after spending the Easter holidays at their homes. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Farquhar and Graham, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Layton, at Clinton. W. M. S. The Women's Missionary Society of the United Church held their reg- ular meeting at the home of Mrs. Edmund Geiger, on Thursday after- noon. The President,, Mrs. Brooks, presided and the meeting opened singing "When I Survey The Wond- rous Cross" followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. The roll call was answered with ' 17 members re- sponding and 8 visitors. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. It was decided to hold the W.M.S. meeting on April 18th in the evening, Mrs. Groom, of Clin- ton to be the guest speaker. It was also decided to invite the Mission Circle to the birthday party. A beau- tiful hymn was sung, by three girls, and was much enjoyed by all. An, Easter' service of worship was then taken, read responsively. A reading. was then given by Mrs, Brooks, stressing how the war had affected the world, making people more. thoughtful of others, and that we want to try: and make it a better world. Following the taking of the offer- ing the, meeting closed by singing "Love Divine,, All Love Excelling and the benediction. Lunch was served by the hostess and committee, The. Mission Circle of the United Church, held their regular meeting on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Byron Kyle, with Mrs, H. Hyde as co -hostess, Mrs. Kyle pre- sided and opened the meeting with the theme song and "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", The roll call was answered with your favorite flower The Scripture, Mark 16, verses 9-15 was taken by Mrs. Hyde. BRODHAGEN On Monday evening members of the council and officials of the town- ship of Logan met at the home of Wm. Vock Sr. and presented him with a travelling bag. Reeve Fred Ahrens spoke briefly after which J. A. A social hour was spent in which Mr. Vock remin- isced about many incidents during the years of tax collecting. Refresh- ments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vock Jr. after which all joined in singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Members of St. Peter's Luther League met on Sunday evening for their monthly devotional meeting with Kenneth Schmidt's group in charge. Responsive reading of Psalm 111 was led by Roy Siemon. The Scripture lesson was read by Grace Wietersen, Kenneth Schmidt pres- ented the topic. Rev. Schultz con- ducted discussion of the topic and also conducted the Bible study per- • iod. Roll call showed 32 members present. It was decided to have a special Life Service program on Sunday evening, May 6th. For the next meeting all members of this year's confirmation class will be in- vited. Mrs. Mary Dittmer returned to the home of her brother, Mr. J. F. Prueter after spending the past three months with her daughter in Florida. Mra, John C. Diegel and Mrs. Sam Collins are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Don Markle in Wood- stock,, Mr. Glenn Diegel spent several clays during the Easter holidays with his sister, Mrs. Don Markle and Mr. Markle at Woodstock. Mr. and Mrs. Markle spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Diegel. Mr, and Mrs. John Elligson of Seaforth, visited Mr. and Mrs. Wm.- S. Riehl on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hoftmeyer, Grace and Jackie of Sebringville with Mr. and Mrs. Eli Rapien. Wren Doris Hinz of Ottawa is spending a week's leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hinz. Mr. and Mrs, Ed. Beuermann and Ronald of Thamesford, Mr. and Mrs. Rhine Kahle of Mitchell, with Mr. and Mrs. Mauel Beuermann Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ira B'asken of Tor- onto with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Eekmier, IVIessrs. Robt. and Stewart Miller of Brussels and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Boyd and Gloria of McKillop with Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Miller. Mr. J. F. Prueter and Mr. Norman Rock attended a meeting of the Lu- ther League of Canada at Hanover Lutheran Church on Saturday. The death occurred in Grey twp. near Cranbrook of Mrs. Henry Wes- enberg, the former Barbara Marie Beuermann, in her 79th year, She was born 'in McKillop township in 1867 and lived most of her life around this vicinity. Mrs: Wesen- berg suffered a stroke about a year ago and has been in poor health ever since. She is survived, by seven dau- ghters and one son, 21 grandchild- ren and 10 great grandchildren: Ra- chel (Mrs. Chas. Ahrens), Brodhag- en; Lena (Mrs. Ernest Elligson), of McKillop; Lou (Mrs. Gibson), Niag- ara Falls, N.Y.; Barbara (Mrs. Mc- Leod), of Hamilton; Emma (Mrs. Chris Leonhardt) of Doon; Irene airs. John G. Hinz), Brodhagen; Marie (Mrs. Tom Ryan),. Brussels; George, of Grey. The funeral was held from her late home Monday af- ternoon with service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and interment in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery.
