Pioneer Spirit Beats Housing 'Shortage—Ingenuity, a pioneer spirit, and some skilled assist-
ance from a pair of Canadian lumherjacla are sol\ ing the housing problem for Ralph Spencer,
railroad engineer, and his wife Bessie. Nearly completed, their snug four -room cottage
(below) is being built of Norway pine logs for a total cost of $+3500, less than half of today's
normal construction cost. Disdaining the use of nails and modern tools, the two woodsmen
use 10 -inch drift bolts for securing the. timbers at the joints. And all log cutting and fitting
