THE GARDEN
There is no garden so complete
But roses make the place more sweet,
There is no life so rich and rare,
But one more friend can enter there.
Dear Head Gardener -
When your garden was new
I flew in one day
To pay you a call
Ere 1 went on my way.
Since then I have felt
I'd a claim to the spot,
.And oft I've strayed over,
Though you heard me not.
But the New Year is here,
And I am stere too
To whisper "All Happiness,
Head Gardener, to you."
.And to Gardenites young.
And Ga:rdenites older,
lsiay the new year at hand
Prove a real Joyholder.
But If things go wrong -
As sometimes they do,
Pray keep a'high faille
Till aloes turn blue.
Now ['ll wander along-
I'm'abroad out of season,
But I felt I must' greet you --
That is the reason.

A Dramatic Temperance Story
A. woman entered a bar room and
advanced quietly' to her husband who
sat drinking with three other men,
she placed a covered dish on the
table and said, "thinking ye'd be too
busy to come home for supper 'I've
fetched it to you here," and she de-
parted. The man laughed awkwardly
and invited his friends to share the
meal with him, then he removed the
cover from the dish' which was emp-
ty, it contained only a slip of paper
that said. "I hope you will en3oy
