DUBLIN.
Death of Wm. Burns, in .Dakota. —
•I'he following from a North Da-
kota paper, refers to the death of a
native of Dublin neighborhood:
Sunday evening, July 24th, at 6:30
o'clock p.sn. William :Burns passed
away after five years of suffering, and
confined to his bed. Mr. Burns was
born in Dublin, Can., on April 9th,
1855, the youngest son of 'Daniel
Burns. William Burns came to Pem-
bina county in 1881 in which he took
a homestead seven miles southeast of
Cavalier, vwhich' he proved up. having
the hardships of the early settlers. On
marriage. 1-
elan, After thisna
July 8, 1892, he married Satn cy Stade
r
t tri y he moved
to 'Cavalier, bought a residence, and
remained in the same house until
death claimed hint, lir. Burns was
the head •of a family of four, Law-
rence and Mary preceding him in
death, and Kathryn A. Burns and J.
A. Burns. .lir. Burns had land ,in-
terests near Cavalier until the last
years when he sold his entire hold-
ings. He went back to his old home
five years ago to be at the bedside of
a dying brother. After Mr. Burn's
lost has brother he retrained in Can-
ada visiting his old companions, when
on the 13t1t of September, 1921: he
suffered a severe stroke, having to re-
main there until ,November before he
could be removed to his home at
Cavalier, ,\11 through his sufferings
and being confined to bed he was
cheerful, and tried to bear his 'burden.
He improved slightly with strong
hope of regaining the power to talk
and use of his limbs. On June 28th,
of the present year, he was stricken
the second time, and from then until
death he suffered to a great extent.
He retrained conscious tmtil the very
end and passed away with a senile that
(vent with hint to his grave. •Mr.
Barns was of a very'cnngenial nature,
and of wide acquaintance.' He was a
member of the St. Bridget's Catholic
Church, receiving the sacraments of
the church Sunday afternoon before
his death, He also was a member of
the Catholic Foresters, the Yoeman
and Woodman lodge. He leaves to
mourn Itis loss Mrs. Burns, his wife,
Kathryn A. Burns and J. A. Burns,
all of Cavalier. All ni Mr, Burns'
brothers and sisters have preceded
him by death. Funeral services were
held front the City Hall at 10 a,nl,
July 26th, Rev. Father Ward officiat-
ing. His sermon was "Tt is Said The
-World Ts Getting Worse," but in each
person's life there are rest periods in
which we look back over the past, and
into the future, meditating on the
good and bad we have done, and the
sacrifice of this fancily ,has given 'Mr,
'Burns through 'his five years of ill-
ness, and he would have received the
same tender attention if he .had re-
mained` twenty years longer. We
must not be selfish with ourselves or
neighbors, and help the weak to carry
their burden, Six American Legion
nteia acted as pallbearers: D. R,
Green. Ross 'McIntosh, Harold Well,
II. L. Iiranchaud, A. J, Wallerius'and

bearers were John O'Keefe, Wm,
