The Women's Institute will meet at the home of Mrs. A. Colgiihoun, president, on the - evening of May 31st, when a -lady speaker from Pick cling will address the meeting. The baseball match played between Staffa and Cromarty last week, re 5liltcd in a victory for Cromarty. Mr. Drake is visiting' in Stratford. Rev. E. J. Roulston has had a call to a circuit in the Strathroy district. The May meeting of the Staffa Methodist church was held on Mon- day in the church, The board passed, a resolution of appreciation of the work of the. pastor for the past three years. Every branch of church work has had a successful year and the cir- cuit has paid`;its pastor a salary of $1,700. The stewards of the Staffa circuit are Herbert Simile , R. A. Malcolm; F. q Brien, district dele- Mci1ILLOP, Death of Miss Campbell. --On Sun- day, May 20th, there passed away Miss iss Mary Campbell, aged forty-five years, after a long illness,' having been confined to bed for a year all but eight days. During all that time she had been a patient sufferer, and displayed great fortitude, A daughter of. the late Mr, and. Mrs. John Camp- bell, she was born on the same farm on which she died. She is survived by two brothers and five sisters:- James, Winthrop; Wilson and Letitia, at home; Mrs. Angus Reid and Mrs. Robert Reid, Walton; and Mrs. John McKinley and Mrs, Robert McKinley, of Stanley township. Her father pre- deceased her twenty years ago, and her mother fifteen years ago. The funeral was held from the residence of her brother, Mr. 'Wilson Campbell, lot 18, concession 6, McKillop, on Tuesday afternoon, to the place Of interment in the Maitlandbank ceme- tery, Rev. J. A. Ferguson conducting the services. The pallbearers were Messrs. Coun- cil was held on May 16th, at the Township hall, Staffa. The members ail present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. . A number of gravel contracts were let by the Reeve. Orders on the Treas- urer of the township were issued, amounting to $510,53. In answer to an appeal to the Township, the amount of $15 was granted to the Ontario Red Cross for the relief of the Cochrane typhoid fever patients. The Scott and Mahaffy drain by- laws were read for the first time and provisionally adopted. The council then adjourned to meet on Wednesday, 30th day of May, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon to hold Court of Revision on the Assessment Roll, also Court of Revision on the Scott and Mahaffy municipal drains will be held in the afternoon, com- mencing at 2 o'clock. -JAMES JOR- DAN, Clerk. WALTON. The Many friends of Mrs. William MeGavin, Sr., who has been i11 for some time, will be pleased to know site is improving slowly. The many friends ofMiss Mary Swallow will be pleased to know that she is convalescing slowly after her recent serious sickness. Mr. John Clark has disposed of his forty -acre farts just east of the village to Mr. Andrew Coutts, of McKillop. Mr. Clark purposes mov- ing. owing to Harriston in the near future. i Another of the old pioneers passed away at Gleichen hospital, Alta., on Thursday, May 17th, in the highly esteemed person of Mr. Alexander Gardiner, who went west in April on a business trip. Heart disease was the cause of death. The remains were brought to his late borne here for burial, He was a 'staunch mem- ber of Duff's Presbyterian church, be- ing one of the elders for a number of years. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his widow, two sons, Mr, P. P„ Gardiner, Walton, and Dr. John. Gardiner, of Chicago, I11 and four daughters, namely: Mrs, J. Mobray, -Mrs. W. G. Clark, Mrs, A. Scott and Mrs. Wm. Graham. Th'e sym- pathy of -the community is extended to the family in their sudden bereave- ment. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from the. church. Services were conducted by Rev, Mr. Chandler, after which the cortege proceeded to Brussels ceme- tery, where the t'emains were laid to rest. The young daughter Ileene, of Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin, of this vicinity, had an operation for append- icitis on Sunday by our local doctors. Her many, friends will be pleased to hear of her speedy recovery shortly. THURSDAY, MAY 24, 1923, TOWN OF SEAFORTH. Regulations for Parties Using Dump- ing Ground at J. F. McMann's. (1) Parties using this Dumping Ground must enter by the gate at the house of Mr. McMann, (2) Dump is to be only used for dumping metal scrap, glass, old cans, ashes or •simil- ar . material,' (3). No vegetables, fruits, grain, meat, salt, or decaying matter allowed to bedumped here. (4). All material to be dumped into the pit and not to be thrown over the fence, Or scattered around outside of the pit, (5). (21) MANLEY. Another pioneer passed away last Thursday, the 17th inst, at the Sea - forth Hospital, in the person of Michael Wall, at the age of 75 years after an illness of about two weeks. When his physician was called, he at. once moved him to the Hospital, with little hopes of his recovery, as his heart was badly affected. His two daughters, Mrs. Andrew Cotter, from Owen Sound, and Mrs. Con. Cotter, from Chesley, Ont., were summoned at once and stayed byhis bedside to the end. His funeral took place to St, Columban church, where Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. White, and from thence to St. Columban cemetery, where all that was mortal was laid to rest, amid the sorrowing friends. He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs, Con. Cotter, from Chesley, and Mrs. Andrew Cot- ter, from Owen Soutid,. who have the sympathy of the whole community in their bereavement: Mr. Wall, with his parents, moved to McKillop sixty one years ago, and has practically -re-, sided here ever since, He wasniar- ried forty-eight years ago to Miss Lizzie McKay, who predeceased hila 23 years ago, and his only son James, three years ago. The pall -bearers were Messrs, Frank Dempsey. Joe. John- ston, John Murray, Pat. McLaughlin, Willie Manley and Con. Eckart. Mr. W.
