W.M.S. Hold October Meeting
The W.M.S. of St. Andrew's Unit-
ed Church here niet on Tuesday
afternoon last at the home of Mrs.
Caldwell. The president, Mrs. Robert
Elgie, opened the greeting by read-
ing ?salt, 129 in the hymnary.
Hymn 579 was then sung. Mrs. Al
thur Finlayson then led in prayer.
The general thanksgiving was then
read in unison. ,Mr's. A. Finlayson
then read the scripture, Psalm 65,
Mrs. Hinton then favored with a. solo.
The minutes were then read and
twenty member's and four visitors
answered the roll call. The visiting
committee for October was Sias, R.
Dayman and Mrs, 05. Cooper, It was
decided to invite the Goshen and
Blake W.M.S, to .attend the birthday
party in the church here Nov. 2nd.
The program committee for the
coming year was chosen. Mrs. Eldon
Jarrett, Margaret Sinclair, and Mrs.
H. Caldwell.
The nominating committee are
Mrs. E. Chipchase, Mrs. W. Work-
man, Mrs, A. Parsons. Mrs. Hinton
then read a poem "Look on the
Bright Side". 'Hymn 578 was then
sung. 'Mrs. W. Alexander then gave
a very interesting' study, "Growing
with the Years", The closing hymn
was 446. Mrs. R. Elgie then pro-
nounced the ,Benediction. A very
dainty lunch was served by circle 1,
Holds Anniversary
The congregation of St. Andrew's
United Church held their annual an-
niversary on Sunday last with large
congregations present at both ser-
vices. The guest speaker for the day
was Rev, Dr. R. T. Richards of
London, Special music was furnished
by the choir assisted by Mrs. W. El-.
liott of Parkhill. The morning an-
them was "Shine upon us". Mrs.
Elliott chose for her solos "0 Lord
how Merciful" and "My Task". The
evening anthem was "Extol His
Name", and the solos were "The
Lord is My Shepherd" and "0 Sa-
viour hear me."
Recent visitors at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Kay were Mr. and
Mrs. F. Robinson and family and Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Rastare of Mitchell,;
also Mr. and Mrs. R. Duncan . and
Mr.' and Mrs. G. Duncan of Thames
'Road.

ed a very pleasant evening.

expect soon to move into their new
home in Kippen which they have re-
cently completed.

turned ehome on Tuesday after a
motor trip through southern and
eastern Ontario.

meeting at the home of Mi's. J. Hug -
on Tuesday. Oct. 11th Mrs, L.
Lawson opened the meeting with the
singing of hymn 95. Prayer by Mrs.
E. Adams; minutes were read and
adopted. Slate of officers to be
handed in at the November meeting.
Mrs.- P. Lindsay offered prayer.
The thankoffering meeting to be
held in the church on Wednesday,
Oct. 20th, Mrs. J. W. Thompson to
be the guest speaker. Mrs. Milison
took charge for the programme.
Prayer by Mrs: C. Montgomery, duet
by Mrs. Mcllwain and Mrs. Mont-
gomery. Study book was given by
Mrs. W. L. Whyte, hymn 285 was
sung and Mrs. P. Lindsay closed the
meeting with prayer.
BRUCEFIELD
The deathof a well-known resi-
dent of Biucefield, ;YII% Henry Day
man, occurred on Monday morning,
Oct. 17, after a brief illness. The
deceased had lived all his life in this
community, having been born on the
second concession of Tuckersmith,
LRS, a son of the late lIlr. and Mrs.
John Dayman. After his marriage
the resided of the sante concession
until retiring to Brucefield five
years ago. lie is survived by hie wife,
the former Christena Kelly of Tuck-
ersmith: also by three brothers and
two sisters: Joseph Dayman ..of Kip -
pen, Thomas Dayman of London,
Miss Mary Dayman of Granton, John
Dayman of Chilliwack, B.C., and
Mrs. John Moore of Algoma. The
funeral was held on Wednesday
afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr.
Wilson of Clinton, under auspices of
Brucefield Oddfellows Lodge. Inter-
ment was in Baird's- cemetery, pall-
bearers being Donald Murray; Cliff
Murray, Ross Murray, Herman Day -
Mian, Allis Dayman and C. Dayman.

The Sacrament of the Lord's Sup-
per was observed in Duff's United
Church on Sunday. Special music
was furnished by the choir under the
direction of Mrs. Harvey Brown.
Those uniting with the church were

Stevens and Miss Iona Watson.
