Women were considered un -in- tellectual, she could not he taught any more than a cow. Conditions in Orphanages and jails indescribable. But as the missionary visits these places carrying • with them some little treat and showing them what Christian love means, their faces brighten. The people so enjoy doing their Christian privileges. Looking on the brighter side, af- ter years of Christian teaching and association, the women go about the streets in dignity and unhampered in any respect, they occupy respon- sible positions as men. They are teachers, preachers., Bible -women, doctors, nurses, itinerant-missionar les, and are proving themselves very capable. Now a missionary holds no executive position in schools, churches or hospitals, but are co-workers with the Christian Chinese leaders. Miss Rouse affirms that the Chritsian teaching has been so afee- tual and the people have accepted it so confidently that communism can never undermine their faith in Jesus Christ.
