CHARLES POLLARD
There passed away in Wingham
General Hospital on Wednesday,
August 10th, a highly ' respected
person, Charles Pollard, youngest
son of Mr. and Mrs. George Pollard.
He had been an invalid for the past
eight years. The, deceased was born
in Hibbert Township on Dec. 6th,
1875 and moved to Morris Township
as a. young man. On June 20, 1903
he • married Mary Emily Bolger,
youngest daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. James Bolger. To this un-
ion there were two daughters and
one son; Mary (Mrs. Edgar Holl-
inger) of Hamilton; George, at
hone; Mildred (IM'Irs. W. J. Perrie)
of Grey•Township. He leaves to
mourn his wife and family, also one
brother, George of Weston and
seven grandchildren. '
The funeral service was held from
the hone of his son, on Friday after-
noon with Rev. John Kerr, rector of
St. John's. church, assisted by Rev,
T. D. Jones of Seaforth. During the
service' Mr. Graham McDonald sang
"Safe in the Arms of Jesus". The
deceased's favorite hynui was sung
later, "Rock of Ages'.
The pallbearers were four neph-
ews, Sandy Elliott, Will 4Vasman,
Harry Bolger, Harold Bolger, two
neighbors, Archie Engel and Jas.
McDonald.
The flowerbearers were six. grand-
children:- Charles and Marie Holling-
er, . Kenneth and Yvonne Pollard,
Jini and Donald Perrie,. Beverly
Riley, Ilene Dundas, Jim Bolger,
Shirley Bolger, and Marilyn Bolger.
The floral tributes were .beautiful
and showed the esteem in which the
deceased was held. They are namely:

A thunder storm lasting several
hours visited this district on Wednes-
day morning. East of here in Lo-
gan township there was 00 thunder
and only slight rain.

the lights at Blyth on Monday night.
These two teams are tied in first
place and the winner of this game
will play Blyth, while the losers will
play Hensen in _the semi-finals.

The Centralia Flyers tangled with
the Bosharts on Friday night, defeat-
ing.then: by a 14-1 score. This was
the first of a best of five series..
Andrews, the -third Centralia bat-
ter in the first stanza, clouted a
clean-cut circuit hit for the only run
for either team, in the first three
innings.
In the fourth the Flyers tallied
their second run of the game on a
double by Armstrong and a Seaforth
error. Wilson and Smith tripled and
doubled for the locals but were left
stranded. The' top half of the visitors
pushed across two more runs on a
single and three walks.
The top of the bixth fram sewed
up the game for Centralia, as they
ran rough -shod over Bosharts, count
-
uiafivenalcerson three singles and
three Seaforth errors.
Bosharts were beaten by a better
team: despite more hits than the
visitors. They could not come
through with the necessary goods
when most needed.
Kennedy for Seaforth and Nose-
worthy for Centralia went the route.

On Tuesday -night the Flyers play-
ed host to the Bosharts in the Exeter
Community Park when they took the
second game of the best of five
semi-final series by a '7-6 score.
It was Centralia again all the way
although the first of the ninth start-
ed turning in Seaforth's favor when
with one away Mulford singled,
Boussey flied to third, Bill Smith
singled and Mulford scored to bring
the score to a 7-6 reading. With one
run necessary to tie the game, Cam-
eron singled but both Smith and
Cameron were left stranded when
Wilson grounded out to the third
baseman.
O'Shea on the mound for Seaforth.

nedy, struck out two, allowing no
walks two hits and no runs to. be

For Centralia, Thornton com-
menced the pitching duties with six
strikeouts and one walk, allowing
five runs and five bits. Noseworthy,
who replaced Thornton in the 7th
struck out two and walked none, -al-
lowing one run and. five hits,

The only home run of the game
was clouted out by Cameron in the
fourth inning.
The third game of this series
will be played here at Lions Park
Thursday at 8:45 p.m. sharp. Be
sure to be on hand to see Seaforth
fight it out with Centralia to stay in,
and continue into the finals.

Turk Broda's National Hockey
League All -Stars edged Seaforth
Bosharts, 7-5, in an exhibition soft-
ball game played here before a large
crowd. The game was halted after
five innings due to rain,
The All-Star squad was full of
prominent hockey names including
Detroit Defencenan Bill Quacken-
bush; Boston Bruins forward, Bob
Harrison; Toronto forwards, Fleming
Mackell, Syd Smith and Harry Wat-
son; Toronto -goalie, Turk Brocla;

A reunion was field near Preston
on Sunday, Aug, 14 of the Sitter
relatives at the hone of Jeremiah
Sitter, brother of Mrs. Henry
Steekle. Those attending from this,
community were Mr. and MTs. H.
Steekle, Edwin and Alvin, Viola,
Martin, Mr. Ivan Steekle and Mari-
lyn, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Martin and
family, NIr. and Mrs. Earl Gingerich
and Erlene. There was one group of
four • generations, Mr, and Mrs. H.
Steekle; Mr. and Mrs. A. Martin,
Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. Aaron
Wideman and baby son, 'Clifford,
seven weeks old. About 100 guests
were present.

Funeral services were held on
Monday afternoon for Mrs. Henry F.
Bennewies, a former resident of
Brodhagen, who died Saturday morn-
ing at the Home of her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. L.
Walther, Water St., Mitchell. A brief
service at, the home of her son-in-
law was conducted by Rev. J. V.
Woelfle of Grace Lutheran Church,
Mitchell. This was followed by a
memorial service in St. Peter's Lu-
theran Church, Brodhagen, of which
Mrs. Bennewies had been a faithful
and life-long member. Rev. R. B.
•Geeihar of Listowel was in charge.
The choir, with oils ryI G. 4gk at the
organ, sang the hymns "Rock of
Ages" and "I'm Going Home". The
beautiful floral tributes were carried
by Lorne Mueller, Harvey Dolmage,
George Rock, Ivan Bennewies, Glen
Bennewies, and Edwin Bennewies.
The pallbearers were five grand-
children, William Bennewies, Clar-
ence Bennewies, Irvin Bennewies,
Carl Bennewies, and Harry Benne-
wies, with William Voek. Relatives
and friends were in attendance from
Newmarket, Toronto, Detroit, Wood-
stock, Galt, Isitchener, Seaforth,
Fullerton, Mitchell, and the sur-
rounding district. Burial was made in
the cemetery adjoining the church
