Mr. and Mrs. Alf Scholl and Garry were weekend visitors with relatives at Monkton. Mrs. Catharine Devlin visited over the weekend with Mrs. Edna Corbett Mr, John L. Nicol is spending his vacation with friends in Galt, Prest- on and Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Win. Brown, Billie and Carol returned home after spending the holiday weekend with Mrs. Brown's parents Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Neeb in Tavistock. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Oesche and family of St. Catharines spent the weekend with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Parke visited over the weekend with relatives in Toronto. Mrs. Win. Riley has been confined to Victoria Hospital, London, owing to illness. Dr, Margaret MacLean spent this week in Toronto. VARNA '.Che funeral of the late Mrs. Win. Rathwell, a former resident of Stan- ley township, was held from the United Church. Varna, Friday after- noon. Mrs. Rathwell had been living with her granddaughter at Windsor for some time. Mrs. J. Ferguson, Sudbury, who has been holidaying at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs, 34. Elliott, is at time of writing in Clinton hos- pital after an appendix operation. Ma. and Mn. Charles Marks and. son John spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Galbraith. Mr: and Mrs. Nelson Vickers, Drumheller, Alberta, visited with Mr, and Mrs..A. Ings last week. Mr. and Mrs. 11. Turner and fam- ily were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Reid. Mr. Wm. Cameron, Detroit, and sisters Misses Elizabeth and ,Mildred, Bayfield, in company withMr. and Mrs. D. A. Galbraith, visited with friends in Seaforth and H"ensall on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Horner and family, Hamilton, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs: A. Ings. On Friday evening last Mrs. Har- old Elliott had the misfortune to have her leg broken while milking a cow which was of a nervous' temper ament. Mrs. Elliott was knocked over and tramped on by the fright- ened animal. Dr. Oakes, Clinton, set the broken limb and Mrs. Elliott was permitted to go to her -home and - at time of writing is getting along nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Parson and family,. Staffa, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Aldixlgton. Mrs. Dave Elliott and granddaug- hter, Clinton, visited her brother Mr. Nelson Reid and Mrs. Reid last . Thursday. Deceased was born in McHiilop, near Seaforth on April 11, 1864, and later moved with his parents to Morris. Township. On June 20, 1894, he married Mar- garet Duffield Hamilton, daughter of the late Ma. and Mrs. Henry Hamilton. By this union there were two sons and t wo daughters, How- ard owand of .London, Harry at home, Harriet )MFk rand Olive (Ms.11Tor ante ston of McKillop),ercKilop), Dundas of Walton). He leavesto mourn, his wife and family, also three brothers and three sisters, James, of Seaforth; Joe of Edmon- ton and William of Lacadena, Sask.; Martha (Mrs. Andrew Knight) Em - wile (Mrs. Charles Pollard) and Miss Jennie A., all of Walton community. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. John Herr, pastor of St. George's Church: Walton, of which the deceased was a member. During the service, Mrs. Herb Travis and Mrs. Harold Sellers sang a duet "Beyond the Sunset". The pallbear- ers were three nephews and three neighbours, Harold Bolger, George Pollard, Mark Hamilton, Donald Bu- chanan, Stewart Humphries and George Ramsay. The flowerbearers were eight grandchildren, Lois Bolger, Irwin, Harry and Roma Johnston, Olive Dundas a nd Marilyn, Jim and Rose- malie Bolger. The floral tributes were beautiful which showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment was in Brussels cemetery. Misses Erma Walters and Kath- leen Roe have returned from ,a trip to Brockville and the Thousand Is- lands. Master Logan Naftel. of Blyth is spending a few days with Stephen - son's Mrs. William Rathwell' A funeral service was held at Varna United Church July 29th for Mrs. William Rathwell of Windsor, 'who died at her home here on Tuesday after a lengthy ill- ness. She was born at Bayfield and moved to Windsor 10 years ago. The body was taken to the Ball Brothers funeral home 'at Clinton, Thursday. Mrs. Rathwell was a member of Varna United Church. A By-law to authorize the issuing of debentures for $40,000.00 for the construction and equipping of a Seaforth and District Commun- ity Memorial Recreation Centre on the Seaforth Agricultural Grounds WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Seaforth has agreed to sub- mit to the electors a By-law proposing the, issuing of Forty Thousand Dollars- ($40,- 000,00) of debentures upon- the credit of the Corporation for the purpose of constructing and equipping of a Seaforth and' District Community Memorial Recreation Centre on theSeaforth Agficultural Grounds.
