delicious picnic supper Was served
on the ideal ground. The event was
thoroughly enjoyed by all in attend-

Evening Auxiliary Picnic
The July meeting of the W.M,S,
of Hensall United Church was held
in the schoolroom of the church on
Thursday and opened by singin
"0 God of Bethel by whose Hand"
followed by the Lord's Prayer in un-
ison. The devotional, 21st chap. of
Numbers 1-8 and chap. 3 St. John
was read by Mrs. Appleby. Mrs.
Lamanie led in prayer. Mrs. Carlisle
presented Christian Stewardship
notes. It was decided to send a
shower of cards to Miss Violet Mc-
Clymont, It was also decided to
leave the. September meeting in the
hands, of the Executive. A report
from the visiting committee that
Mrs. Geiger and Miss Woods made
eleven calls. The roll call was an-
swered by eleven members naming a
river in the Bible. Hymn "0 Thou
Who contest from above" was. sung.
Mary Ann Ronnie and Gwen Spen-
cer sang a . duett, "Blow, Blow,
Breeze of Spring". They weso ac-
companied by Mr. Rennie and • this
duett was very beautiful and much
appreciated, Miss Katie Scott read-
an article entitled "The as*er o
the Negro Problem". Hymn"Jesus
the very thought of Thee" was sung
and Mrs. Cross led in prayer.
Mrs. David Foss of Toronto visit-
ed during the past week with Mr.
and Mrs. Basil Edwards.

The choir of Carmel Presbyterian
Church held a "hamburger roast"
at Turnbull's Grove on Thursday
evening with a large representation
of members and friends attending.
During the evening Mr. and Mrs.
Win, Butson (nee Mae Taylor) were
presented with a gift. The address
was given by Rev. Ferguson and the
presentation made by Miss Alma

sail.. Mrs. Dennison, another active
member, who was unable to be pre-
sent will also. receive a -hymnary.
Mrs. Dave Kyle, Wohelo Class Presi-
dent. then referred to the co-opera-
tion rendered by "Mrs. Dennison, as
teacher. She will receive as a fare-
well gift, a teapot and an accomp-
anying address. Miss Gladys Luker,
Secretary, read a "Thankyou" note
from Mrs. Blackwell for a toy re-
ceived by Laurie John. Mrs. C. Pass-
more thanked the auxiliary for cards
received during her recent bereave-
ment. At the close Mrs. J. Corbett

Mrs. Geo. Hess is confined to St.
Joseph Hospital, London, where she
is undergoing treatment. Her many
friends wish her a speedy recovery.

The death occurred of Miss Alice
Fingland, who had resided ih Londes
born for a number of years. She
underwent surgery in a London hos-
pital in April, but tailed to recover.
Born in Rockton, she moved with her
family to the 13th of Hullett when
quite young. They moved to Londes-
boro in 1916, where she had resided
except for a few years when she
worked in Toronto. She was a mem-
ber of the Londesboro United Church
and took a great interest in the Snn-
day. School work. Besides her mother,
Mrs. John Fingland, she is survived
by three sisters and four brothers,
Mrs.'William Sones, St. Thomas; Mrs..
Robert Grierson, Sunderland; Mrs,
John Barker, Toronto; Rev. Dr', Wil-
liam Fingland; Niagara Falls Colin,
Wingham. Frank, Clinton, and Mur-
ray, Cochrane. Her father died re-
cently.
The funeral was held Tuesday af-
ternoon from the Londesboro United
Church with Rev, S. H. Brenton in
charge.

in collision with a dump truck driven
by the Bayfield man, who had with

Seaforth, and John Holmes, Goderich.
Neither of the passengers was in-
jured, The truck was a right-hand
drive model. The veli101e$ collided on
a highway curve between Kitchener
and Guelph.
