Evening Auxiliary
The monthly Evening Auxiliary
sleeting which took the form of a
pot -luck supper was held in the
United Church school -room, on Tues-
day night, Oct. 12th. After a delici-
ous meal Mrs. J. Corbett presided
for the meeting which opened with
the theme song and the Lord's
Prayer. Minutes read, collection
taken. In answer to the roll call,
members offered souvenirs or trink-
ets suitable for the bazaar. Rev. R.
A. Brook contributed an interesting
message. Illustrated motion pictures
were shown by Mr. and Mrs. M.
Drysdale, depicting their trip to the
States, the West, Vancouver, Victor-
ia, after which Mrs. Corbett thanked
them for their kindness. Lovely vocal
numbers "We're poor little lambs"
and "There's a tree in the meadow"
were given by Marlene Petzke and
Audrey Walsh, accompanied by
Edna Walsh. Mrs. D. Kyle ably pre-
sented the devotional period, basing
her remarks on "Thanksgiving".

at the home of Mrs. Wes. Jones. Mrs.
Appleby then rendered a pleasing
piano solo. The Mizpah Benediction
closed the meeting. Mrs; Maude

Institute Meeting
The Annual Historical Research
and Grandmothers' meeting of the
Hensall Institute was held at the
home of Mrs. E. Geiger, on Wednes-
day night, October 13th. Mrs. Robt.
Cameron assisted the hostess. Mrs.
A. Kerslake, the President, opened
the meeting with the Ode and "When
You and I were Young, Maggie",
after which the Lord's Prayer was
repeated. The President extended
words of welcome to the many
grandmothers and guests. The roll
call requested each member to wear
some old article of clothing. The
motto "Let nothing valuable be lost
or forgotten", as presented by Mrs.
Cross, was most inspiring. Mrs. Paul
Doig of Seaforth, the guest speaker,
delighted her audience by taking as
her subject "Your Village Tweeds-
muir History". The importance of
compiling past history was stressed
at the close of Mrs. Doig's remarks,
she quoted the poem "Great Gran-
dad". Mrs. C. Kennedy and Mrs. R.
Ferguson accompanied by Mrs. C.
Forrest, contributed a beautiful re-'
cal duet "When rnah soney sings an
old -tinge song".
During the business period a
"Thank -you" note was received from
Mrs. R. Chipchase, referring to the
hank book given her son "Billy".
Mrs. G. Schwann personally thanked
the group for their remembrance of
'Barbara Louise".

•On Wednesdays evening Oct. 13th -
a number of girl friends of Doris
Reid, bride -td -be entertained her at
a show, after which they returned.
to the home of Joyce Stephenson
where a social hour and dainty' lunch
was served. Doris was presented with
a lovely wall mirror.
On Tuesday afternoon Oct. 12,
Miss Doris Reid, bride -elect of Oct.
16th was honoured by her friends
and neighbours numbering almost
80, at a miscellaneous shower held
at her home with Mrs. Wilmer Reid
and Mrs. Louis Taylor in 'charge.
She was the recipient of many love-
ly and useful presents. The bv'idels
trousseau was displayed by Mrs.
Bruce Keys, Mona Reid and Mrs.
Jack Mustard.
The following address was read
by Mona Reid. The bride responded
fittingly.
To Doris:
For the past few months we's been
waiting,
We've watched the daily press,
To 'see if Fred and Dixon
Had given their consent at last.
Only last week we read it,
That Reid's girl and Cantelon's boy
Were going to be married,
So we wish them both much joy.
The eventful day is Saturday,
I guess they're all prepared;
The cake is made, the rooms all
shine,
No effort has been spared.
And so we are met ogether
To see the bride's dress and a hat,
A quilt and a towel or two maybe,
And a nice little bowl for the cat.
And also, dear Doris, we've brought
you
These pots and pans galore,
If you open up all these parcels -
I'm sure you'll find plenty more.
But no matter what our gift is, '!
We surely want you to know, ' AT FINNIGAN'S
