The September' meeting of the
Hensall Institute which takes the
form of a pot -luck supper, will be
• held in the council chamber on Wed-
nesday night, Sept. 15th, at 6 o'clock.
The roll call will be "The most em-
barrassing moment of my life." An
excellent program is being arranged
under the direction of Mrs. H. Hor-
ton and Mrs. E. Norminton. A' full
attendance is hoped for; newcomers
and. all interested in Institute work
will be heartily welcomed. Members
and guests are asked to provide cups
and saucers and silverware, and. of
course, whatever foodstuffs they de-
sire to take.
The September meeting of the
Evening Auxiliary (United Church)
will be held in the school room on
Monday night, Sept. 13th. Mrs,
Flynn will conduct the devotional
period. Mrs. Sanders will contrib-
ute the missionary item. The study
will be presented by Mrs. J. Cor-
bett. A large attendance is request-
ed. Anyone interested in joining
this group is cordially invited to be
present at this opening Fall meeting.

Mrs. H. Hyde and Mrs. W. Seale
form the social committee.
Mr. and Mrs. Carey B. Joynt,
bridal couple, have arrived home
from their wedding tour. They ex-
pect to leave shortly for Worcester,
Mass., where Mr. Joynt will con-
tinue his studies and lectures in con-
nection with a fellowship received
from Clarke University. The best
wishes of their many friends accom-
pany them to their new home. Dur-
ing the past week, they received a
lovely table lamp—a gift from the
Hensall United Church choir, of
which, Mr. Joynt, who is a proud -
net bass soloist, has been an active
member for several years. Mr. S. G.
Rennie, choir -leader, made the
presentation.

Staffa United Church was the set-
ting for a pretty September Wed-
ding on Saturday when Ilene Steven-
son, Toronto, was united in mar-
riage to Mr. Hans McQuillan, Tor-
onto. • Rev. A. H. Daynard, Staffa,
officiated and Mrs. Henry Harburn
played the wedding music. Mrs.
Judy •Kendall, Detroit, sister of the
bride, sang "Because", during the
signing of the register. ' Given in
marriage by her brother-in-law, Mr.
Andvew Whetham, Dublin, the bride
wore a gray wool suit with match-
ing hat and blue accessories, and
carried a prayer -book. She was at-
tended by her sister, Mrs. Andrew
Whetham, Dublin,' who wore a flow-
ered snail silk frock with matching head-
dress and blue accessories. The best
man was Mr.' George Chalmers, Tor-
onto. Following the ceremony, a
reception was held at the home of
Mr. and 'Mrs. Andrew Whetham,
Dublin, and dinner was ,served to
the immediate relatives of the bridal
party. Among those attending the
wedding were: Mrs. Judy Kendall,
Detroit; Mrs. Elsie Jordison, Lon-
don; Miss Lyda Jodison, Misses
Yvonne and Doreen McQuillan; Miss
Mary and George Chalmers, all of
Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. McQuillan

Mr. Oliver Yallop of Toronto
spent the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Schotehmer. Mrs. Yallop,
who has spent the past two weeks
visiting her parents and other rela-
tives in the vicinity, returned home
with him.
Mrs. Wm. Scotchmer. Mrs. Yallop,
trousseau -tea on Tuesday given in
honor ofher niece, Miss Lois Harri-
son, Reg.N., a bride -elect of Satur-
day.
STANLEY
Mrs. John B. Graham, Bayfield rd.,
Goderich, passed away on Saturday
in Alexandra Hospital in her 86th
year. She had been ill for the past
four weeks. Formerly Jane Emily
Johnston, she *as born in Stanley
township, a daughter of Matthew
and Mary .Tumoth Johnston, pie
veers, who came from Enniskillen,
Ireland. While quite young she
moved with her parents to farm on
the Bayfield rd., Goderich township.
After graduating from the Goderich
Collegiate Institute and Ottawa Nor-
mal School, she taught ,school at
Taylor's Corners, Goderich town-
ship, and later at Sheppardton,
where she met and married John B.
Graham. They farmed successfully
in Ashfield until 1923, when they re-
tired to Goderich where she had
since resided. ,Her husband prede-
ceased her by 14 years, -and a son,
Wesley in 1918. During her long
and useful life, Mrs. Graham took
an active interest in church and
.community life. While a•member in
the then Methodist Church at Shep-
pardton, she was a Sunday School
teacher; W.M.S. worker, choir mem-
ber, and widely known as a gifted
elocutionist. During the First World
War, she was secretary of the Red
Cross, and the Ashfield Soldiers' Aid
Circle, and of the Women's Institute.
Since coming to Goderich, she had
been an active member of North
Street United Church; a life member
and past president of the W.M.S.
Widely read, she was in demand as
a speaker in the latter organization.
She is survived by two sons, Percy,
on the farm in Ashfield; Dr. 3.,
Meredith Graham, Goderich, and a
daughter, Reta ((Mrs. Gordon Orr),
Goderich township; a brother,
Thomas Johnston, of Bayfield,, and
a sister, Mrs. Thomas Sowerby,
Goderich township; nand nine grand-
children. The funeral service con-
ducted by Rev. C. W. Cope, of.
North Street United Church,' was
held at her residence at 2.00 pan.,
Monday. Interment followed in
Maitland cemetery.

4th, in the Township Hall Staffa
with all members present. The reeve,

clerk read the minutes ofd; the pre-
vious meetings which was adopted
as read. A resolutoin was passed
authorizing the reeve and ,treasurer
to sign and submit to the Depart-
ment of Highways the report of the
Road Superintendent for road ex-
penditure

ary to Aug. 31 asking for subsidy
according to the conditions of the
Ontario Highway Act. By -Laws No. -
