Council Meeting The regular meeting of the Vil- lage Council was held on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in the Council Chamber with all members being present. Minutes of the last meet- ing and the two special meetings were read. Jones and Brown, that the minutes as read be adopted. Car- ried. Lee Hedden, Utility man, asked about removing the snow from King Street, instructed to have the same done as soon as possible, also asked about repairing. the chairs and seats in the hall and stated he could do it if he had some tools and was in- structed to secure the necessary tools. Dr. J. C. Goddard M.O.H., ap- peared re his account from last meeting for inmmnizing the school children for 1947, and stated that practically all the children 'attend- ing school and some .. of the pre school children were immunized for Bills and accounts read as follows: Lloyd Noakes, labor, rink, $97.69; W. R. Davidson, coal, rink, $12.38; Bell Telephone servcie $3.50; A. F. MacGregor, map,$5.00; Mustard Lumber and coal, hall, $54.30; Hur- on Expositor, printing, $14.25; D. Sangster, labor, hall, $1.00; F. G. Bonthron, postage, $5.00; T. Kyle, balance salary, $73.80; J. Reid and W. Allan, snowplowing streets, $63,; G. ,Schwalm, snowplowing side- walks, $42.75; Drysdale's Hardware, supplies, hall, $27.24; Hensall Hy dro, rink, $24.00, hall 26.83, total $50.83; Dr. J. C. Goddard, M.O.H. Immunization, $105,25; Association Rural Municipalities, Membership, $5.00. Total $565.99. Middleton and Brown, that the accounts as read be paid. Carried. Brown and Jones, that the rate of 50 cents per hour be paid for day labor, Carried. Parlce and Middleton, that we in- struct the clerk to petition for the Statutory grant under the Highway Improvement Act as per the form received. Carried. Brown and Jones, that by-law No. 3, Clerk, Treasurer, No. 4, Tax Collector, No. 5, duties of Utility man, No. 6, expenditure on roads and streets, No. 7, general utility man, be given first and se- cond readings. Carried. Middleton, scarlet fever, smallpox, whooping cough and diptheria, and in all 507 innoculations had been given last year. Also, stated the work being done by the school nurses and the re- cords being kept by the same. J. A. Paterson reported as having re- ceived $1365.00 in tax prepayments to date which was considerably above last year to date, also re- ported the outstanding taxes as be- ing $279.14. Parke and Middleton that the tax collector be given until April 6th to hand in the tax roll. Carried, After considerable discus- sion the building committee was in- structed to repair the hall, also, in- sulate the ceiling of same. Parke and Brown, that we join the Associ- ation of Rural Municipalities and send two representatives to same. Carried. Parke and Jones, that we the Muncipal Council of the Village of Hensall request the Provincial Government to change the Highway Improvement Act as recently am - mended to allow Towns and Villages a subsidy on under drainage under the Muncipal Act on the costs as assessed by the Engineer against oad and streets and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Association of Rural Municipalities, Carried. Middleton and Brown, that we the Municipal Council of the Vil- lage of Henson, reauest the Provin- cial Government to change Section 6S of the Municipal. Act, allowing a candidate 1 hour only and not until 9 p.m. of the same day nomination closes to resign in respect of the one or more offices for which he is nominated, also, to restrict to 1 hour or the time specified by the local by-law for the filling of nomina- tions and not nut the onus on the Returning Officer when the nomina- tion meeting closes. and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Association of Rural Municipali- ties, Carried. Brown and Parke, that we instruct the treasurer not to col- lect the hall rent for the George Beer reception held Jan. 16, 1947. Carried. Jones and Brown, that a by-law be pre- pared appointing Eward Fink, Fire Chief, at a salary of $25.00 per year and Orville Twitchell as motor mechanic of the Fire Dept. at a sal- ary of $35,00 per year. Carried. Brown and Middleton, that we in- struct the general utility man to start the fire siren every Saturday at 12 o'clock noon, starting Feb. 14, Carried. Jones and Parke, that we now adjourn, 11:40 p.m. Carried. VARNA The regular meeting of the Y.P.U. was held at the home of Doris Reid. Arnold Keys presided and the meet- ing opend by singing hymn -34. Miss Hern read -the scripture and follow- ed with prayer. A business period followed. Hymn 27 was then sung and Joyce Stephenson gave the topic which was "A Prosperous New Year", Hymn 43 was sung and the Mizpah Benediction pronounced. Mr. and Mrs, John Keys were in charge of the recreation. Mary Beatty will have the topic for next meeting and Barbara Mc- Connell and Helen Errath will have charge of the recreation.
