award given by the staff. of Grace
Hospital, Toronto, far the highest
marks obtained in the ,examinations
for the -first year. At the convoca-
tion on June 2nd the award was pre-
sented. a 14k white gold bar'pin with
sapphire setting. Miss White's many
friends extend 'congratu'lations.

On Saturday morning last while af-
ter the cows, S. J. Pym of Usborne
saw a deer that was quietly enjoying
the company of the cattle at the rear
of the farm. On starting the horses,
they ran up to where the cattle were.
The deer was frightened away by one
of the colts which chased it across
the field and it scampered off to the
adjoining woods.' It is reported that
three or four have been seen in the
vicinity of Bayfield.,

and her sudden demise is notch regret-
ted as besides her husband she leaves
to mourn their loss three sons, Fer-
gus, John and Robert, and three dau-

The regular meeting of the Hibbert
Council was helot at'Staffa on Monday,
June 8, all members present the min-
utes of the previous meeting being
read and adopted. The Court of
Revision was resumed, Lot 8 con-
cession 11, had 5 acres of bush lot ex-
empted; lot 3. con. 10, 10 acres ex-
empt and lot 4, eon. 3, 10 acres ex-
empt, Arthur Co(quhoun's appeal to
be released from dog tax was allow-
ed. The Court of Revision was clos-
ed. General Business.—The tenders
for construction of a cement culvert
one quarter mite west of Staffa were
opened and considered. There were
four tenders: 'H. 13. Edge, Seaforth;
Joseph Looby, George Tuffin and
John McDonald, None of the tenders
were accepted and the matter deferr-
ed for the present, A representative
from A. E. Wilson Co., Toronto, sol-
iciting roast insurance was present—
no action was takes,
The Clerk -read a communication
from the Township of Usboree, sub-
mitting Hib'bert's share of surplus on
the 'Gardiner Drain, $59,77. Expendi-
ture orders for roads and bridges
$437.18 and general expense $125.00
were issued, The meeting adjourned
until July 13 at 1 p,m.

day party to which all the ladies of

'The Woman's Association of the
Brucefield United Church held their
June meeting Thursday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. Alex. Broadfoo't
with a good number of members and
several visitors. Mrs. Stevens, devo-
tional leader, opened the meeting by
singing and Scripture reading. Mrs.
J. Addison led in prayer. The presi-
dent presided for the remainder of
the meeting. All the reports were read
and passed, Roll call Scotch proverbs,

were well

the meeting was quite evenly divided.
Mrs. Hugh ,Aikenhead gave a very
interesting paper on a trip through
Scotland; Mrs, Alton Johnston fav-
oured us with a beautiful solo which
was very much enjoyed by all and
was very well chosen for the paper
that was read. A committee of tie
managers and their wives- were ap-
pointed to take charge of a garden
party for the church. Particulars•
and date to be announced later.

planned. Mrs. AV. S. Eroadfoot kind-
ly offered her home for the next
meeting, July 9th. Repeating the
Mizpah benediction brought another
pleasant afternoon to a close. The
hostess served a very generous lunch
and tea which all enjoyed very moth,
